Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

Well I live in a house with my 2 sisters and my mom, and I am the freak tech guy they use to solve EVERYTHING related to technology, I must admit it is great to make their life easy thanks to my advises.

My sisters are big enough to make their own choices related to technology, my little sister bought a 16GB iphone 6, it´s OK because she's only going to use the basics and take selfies and stuff, and my big sister doesn't really care for that things, she buy a laptop thanks to my advises and she is really happy with it, I thing i'll give her a gift card or something like that, on the other side my mother its a dentist, she need to send and receive her patients mails and history's, and she need to take pictures of mouths like every day and her good old samsung galaxy S4 mini its a true pain in the ass because it crash like 2 times every day and she have like a superpower to break her phones like 2 times every year.... In other way it will be really complicated for her AND for my to give her a great camera to take pictures and then to send those pictures to her pc AND then to send them on a mail or something like that... It its complicated because she's a mom... So I will end doing all that by myself...  so I was thinking that it will be more comfortable if she gets for Christmas a great cellphone with great battery life and great camera, it doesn't need to be a marshmallow device because she really don't care and she will be using the same stuff you'll find in every single phone out there, with or without updates... Time ago I had the Sony xperia SL and it really was a great device, it really stand a lot of falls and, well the battery life wasn't good but in that time there wasnt really a lot of choices over there, but it was a really solid device with a great camera and a great construction and stability, so I think i would give my mom something pretty balanced between price and battery life and great camera, I think ill give her a sony xperia C5 ultra, it´s big screen will help her to see the pictures she takes for her patients and wont have problem to send her mails and she well be able to take great mouth and teethes pictures over there, and it has a great battery life from what I've read, the right choice here I'll think it will be the xperia z3 compact, but the limit price its 300$ so Ill stay with the C5 ultra.

Hey Linus,

I'm looking to buy a gift for my parents, preferably a streaming device since they continuously bug me about connecting their Fire HD to mirror onto the TV, and because the apps on there are too funky every time it tends to update for them to accept change.

Note: They haven't been funky since the disco age! :D

I think the apple TV is eh, and given since they are "kinda" used to Amazon fire, I think the new Fire TV would be a great addition, and of course less headaches for myself. That would be a win-win situation. Below is the link, and have a happy holiday season.

iKross In-Ear 3.5mm Noise-Isolation Stereo Earbuds Headphones with Microphone

List Price: $39.99 Price: $19.99 Sale: $12.99

For: Mom (anyone who has a cell phone, but doesn't have a headset/mic).

This makes a great gift for someone in your life who has a smartphone, but never uses ear buds.  Put one ear in while driving for hands free operation.  Put them in while working on a project while talking.  A key feature is that they have a button on the mic dongle to press to pause music / answer calls / hang up.  I got them for a non-techie person in my life recently (gf for her birthday) and she loves them.  She had a pink case, and these matched almost perfectly (just a hair off, but only if you were looking for it, pretty impressive seeing that they were from differnt companies.  What she loved at first was the color.  Not to fear, they come in many colors besides pink.  While she loved the pink at first, I feel the key is that she wouldn't have even known to shop for earbuds/mic with a button on it to manage calls/music.  So thoough she loved the color upon opening the package, she now loves that simple little button most.  The chord is also fairly resistant to knots, which I suggest has made her life easier without even knowing it is a feature.  Just a good gift for making life simpler, being fun (because of color for her), and not being complicated all struck success with this gift, and I'd be pleased to get it again.

Oh, sound quality is good, but nothing special.  So good for the price, but of course you aren't going to be hearing those sounds only hifi speakeres make.

So, everyone loves music. But not everyone can truly listen to their music due to those TERRIBLE headphones that comes with smartphones

and other electronic devices. That makes a headphone a amazing gift to those that enjoy listening to music but never had a chance of using a top class pair of headphones.I would definitely give one of those to my girlfriend, she's always listening to music, i'm sure that she would love it!

I would like to give a cycling computer to my dad because next year he retires and he loves cycling. Now he has a cheap cycling computer and with this present he could record his route with GPS, track heart rate, speed, cadence and altimetry and finally analyze his performance on his PC and share on internet with others the routes on platforms like Strava.

A ps4 for my brother, he used to play games a lot but moving out he said he cant afford one for probably another year or so. He also likes star wars so battlefront would probably be the first game he might play.

- WHAT (Tech-focused gift for the holiday): Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD US$228

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-512GB-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-7KE512BW/dp/B00LF10KTO/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449956690&sr=1-2&keywords=samsung+850+pro

- WHO (Non-techie): my parents

- WHY: Simple, making an old PC feel like new. My parents complain about the sluggishness of the PC sometimes. Although it's old, I know for sure the move to a SSD is an upgrade you can feel and appreciate immediately. Faster cpu, more memory and even faster graphics card don't offer the kind of instantaneous and observable boost in system responsiveness, compared to a system based on traditional harddrive spinning media. I have already upgraded. After upgrading, you’ll be amazed at the performance improvements and wondering why you waited so long. Don't you agree? My parents have been way too patient.

I would get my little sister a nice blue PC case as part of the build I'm planning for her (she wants something that can actually run stuff like mine). Being a little kid, her favorite color is blue and she loves the concept of LED lights, something like this case would surely put a smile on her face as opposed to a low-profile plain PC case.

Hello, my name is Alexander and I am a student in Georgia (country, not state in USA). I want to get an ipad mini or something similar as reliable and easy to use for my Mother who was raising me alone since my birth. She is a musician and a teacher and it's only thanks to her working on 4 jobs that I'm able to attend my lectures. Being an undergraduate I don't earn enough to afford it myself. Her only source of entertainment is Facebook and some detective shows she watches when she comes home late after another hard working day. Right now the only gadget she owns is a 20$ Nokia phone. It would be nice for her to have something to help her catch up with today's world and have internet access outside home or during those long trips with orchestra.

Hi! For Christmas this year I would love it if my mom got a laptop! She has never owned one and has to use the internet on her phone. It can get frustrating especially since she isn't technologically savvy. Also, it could help my little brother with school! I don't ask for a laptop with amazing specs but one that she could use for basic things. Thank You!!!

What: I't like to win a new TV to give to my mother so she can replace her awfull, old CRT... yes, CRT. I'm good without a tv since I really don't watch it all that much, but I know that she loves to see her favorite tv shows and it would be nice to have something modern for a change :)

Here's the link of the tv I have found on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/TCL-40FS3800-40-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B00UB9UJFQ/ref=sr_1_6?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1449961319&sr=1-6&refinements=p_n_feature_nine_browse-bin%3A10650190011%2Cp_75%3A20-%2Cp_36%3A-30000

My Dad loves to watch movies all day long. He has an older sony dvd player. It works but is very slow and has a lot of problems. He also complains about the terrible sound quality in his Vizio TV. So I would like to get him a Samsung HT-J4100 home Theater system. I think with this product there would be a way better experience when the whole family sits down to watch a movie.

My brother

He has a  huge tv but does eveything on his phone. Im hoping once he can get all his media off of one hub it'll change his life and finally get some use out of his tv outside of watching sports.
