Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

I would gift my mom the LG Watch Urbane

I just gave her my LG G4 and explained a whole weekend how it works.

Now she really likes it. She uses a fitbit fitnesstracker (The one without the clock), but she wants to see the time

I want to gift her this because I think she'll like it.

I was thinking of setting up sort of a 'smart home' for my parents, because they want everything to be integrated together, and so that they spend less time looking for remotes and what not (especially my dad). So I thought of getting them a nexus 9, 16gb to use as a controller and for streaming stuff onto a chromecast. :)

An iPad mini 2 for my grandmother-in-law.

http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Retina-Display-ME279LL-Silver/dp/B00GQDBS7O/ref=sr_1_3

Soon after my wife and I married, we moved away from her home in Florida, 3000 miles away to California. We stay in touch with her East coast family daily, usually by phone, but more and more, everyone is using FaceTime and iMessage on their iPhones. The only person left out at this point is her 90 year old grandmother, Nonie. It would be so great for her to have an iOS device so she could participate in all the shared photos and videos, and live video chat of all her new great-grandchildren. She already uses an ereader for reading library ebooks, so I'm confidant she can use the technology. So this year, since we are visiting her for Christmas, wouldn't it be great to leave a little iPad lifeline behind?

I would have to get a wireless printer for my mom and my sister. I always printed things with our confusing printer(at least confusing to them), but if I were to have a wireless printer, I could just show them how to print things and while I am away at college, they won't have to drive to the library almost every day.

I would like to get an iPad mini for my grandmother as she is using a ~5 year old laptop for browsing, going on social media and whatnot. She's been asking for one for a while now and maybe you guys can get it for her. The amazon link has many different sellers and I cant put a link to just one (thanks Amazon), so the cheapest and seemingly most reliable seller (as of this posting) is here.

Merry Christmas! OpieOP //

I would buy a Minix Neo Z64-W10 for my father.

It's a small computer and fairly easy to use even for non-techie parents.

It's also easy to hide behind a desktop display or even behind a TV.

He could watch movies, Netflix or Amazon Prime videos easily and would be able to play back music via music-streaming platform.

Here are the items I would get for my Mom.  She is an avid watcher of television shows and tends to fall asleep to them at night.  While she can learn how to operate most electronics, I think she would prefer television viewing to be simple.  A television in her room with a single HDMI connection will provide the biggest access to on-demand television paired with a capable but easy to use streaming device. Normally I would go with the Chromecast for this, but as Amazon does not sell them, so I went with the below list.

  1. PlayStation TV Bundle - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KVMHVQ8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A2PXFDDSIYFFP - Everything you need to stream basic games and video from your favorate services like Netflix, Hulu and PLEX.
  2. VIZIO 24" 720p TV - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SMCHWJU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_3&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER - A simple and small television for a bedroom with good picture quality and no extra bells or whistles to complicate things.
  3. VIZIO 2.0 Channel Soundbar - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SMBFZNG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_2&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER - A decent companion sound bar for a small tv in a bedroom for better audio clarity than stock tv speakers.

I went with this combo so that it would be a single time setup without switching or configuring or tweaking needed later.  You basically turn it all on and go about selecting your content.  Having the capability to play games as well is a nice extra.

Such a cool giveaway Idea!

http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-43LF5400-43-Inch-1080p/dp/B00ZVCZYTO/ref=sr_1_3?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1449864313&sr=1-3&keywords=tv&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_three_browse-bin%3A7688789011

I'd get this TV for my parents who are moving into a new, cheaper house but don't have a television. They also said if I got them a TV and set it up for them they'd never call or bother me about remotes! :P

A 3+1 monitors stand - http://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Standing-Optional-bolt-through-STAND-V004T/dp/B00I3IMWNY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1449864228&sr=8-3&keywords=3%2B1+monitor+stand

For a friend of mine. (college mate)

He plays lots of video games, and does have 4 monitors (3 of 21'' and 1 of 19''), but all are messy and the 4th is screwed to a shelf above the 3 backwords, and he is not savy at all - he just has money. the monitors often stop working (he pulls the power cable or displayport) and Im always there to "fix" it for him, and the monitors are not aligned well, and the 4th always annoys him because you can't change the angle of it.. A 3+1 monitors stand will just fix everything for him.

=> FULL DISCLOSURE - Ill also enjoy this gift a bit, because Ill go to him and plau some games with triple monitors sometimes :)

 Happy Holidays :)

I would love to buy a chromecast for my dad. Even though its cheap, its a useful device to use the tv for streaming media off your cellphone. He watches movies and browses the internet so doing that on a larger screen would be easier and fun for him. Amazon stopped selling chromecast so no clue how to get a link
