Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

I would get a good pair of noise cancelling headphones for my mother. She travels a lot and this would greatly help ease the stress of traveling. Mostly on the train and on the plane.

My mom has this crappy 2MP camera she got in like 2007 and uses it to capture her most loved moments.  She refuses to get an upgrade, despite the fact that  when scaled even to 480p it looks really bad.  Please help my mom, Linus, I know this maxes the budget... but it would really help.  Thanks

Thanks again, Linus.

I would like to get my grandpa a gtx 960 he was a great gamer (Mario) back in the day and thinks the newest thing that happened to the industry was counter-strike source. He still loves games but not too much of a console fan. He thinks that "sticks" are too unprecise - #MLGramps

A nvidia shield for my parents, as they enjoy playing mobile games and watching netflix and youtube, but they don't like small screens. That way they can watch and play on the TV in their living room instead.

Sorry for this being the first post. My previous account required a password reset, but the email just won't show up in hotmail. It is not in the junk either so I had no choice but to make a new account.

Which gift and who:

I would like to give an ASUS Chromebook Flip 10.1in 4GB RAM 16GB SSD Convertible to my mom for Christmas.

Link: http://www.amazon.com/Chromebook-10-1-Inch-Convertible-Touchscreen-Rockchip/dp/B00ZS4HK0Q/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449804453&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=asus+flip+CP100pa

Why?

My mom has been using hand downs from me for the past 10 years. Now that my old desktop finally died, she is stuck using an aging overheating HP Pavilion laptop from 2006. I had to ghetto rig it to the bottom of her desk and hook up an external monitor to it to keep it cool. It runs horribly slow with Windows 7. I thought it would be nice to give her a Chromebook running Chrome OS because all she does is check her email, browse the web and pay her bills online. These tasks are way more user friendly when done on the Chromebook than any Windows machine. It would be nice to finally not have to provide tech support every other day.

Hopefully I win, but if I don't I will get her a Chromebook regardless.

Merry Christmas LTT staff :)

A bit of a less substantial gift but alleviates a common problem. Some friends are always running out of charge on their phones, or tablets when out or about. Having one or two of theses for them should keep them from getting overly paranoid of running out of juice, or frantically searching for a place to plug in:

I would like to get Kindle Paperwhite ebook reader for my girlfriend. She love to buy and read books but we have not much space in our flat.

Also she is non-techie and she can not understand how people can read books on "tablet" so I would like to change her mind

and show her that reading books on "tablet" is entertaining as well.

Kindle Paperwhite

PS. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I would get a WASD Code keyboard for my mom. She does all her work on her computer and the phone, and she has a $5 rubber dome piece of garbage. I think this would make her enjoy her time behind her desk a lot more, as well as be able to work more comfortably in the dark (she hates over head lights) as she tends to do more often than not.

If I were looking to hit the $300 limit, I would get another for my sister who actually works for my mom's business and does many of the same things as my mom, but she is more on the move and doesn't have a permanent desk setup.

Amazon Fire TV Stick.

I chose my grandma as the recipient for this gift.

My grandma has always been there for me, and she never asked for anything in return, even if I was bad in my teenage years. Grandma loves movies, she always has; even from a young age. She used to tell me about going to the theater with her dad for a nickel each, and how much she loved it. With this gift I hope I can give her the freedom to watch all the movies she wants, to hopefully give her that feeling she had all those years ago. Grandma is (as she likes to say) computer illiterate, so she has no idea Netflix exists, or any other streaming service for that matter. I'm hoping to open her up to this world of freedom without overwhelming her with confusion everywhere. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I would love to get this silver Samsung S2 smartwatch for my mom. I have a three year old brother and she is always very busy. This could help her get notifications when her phone is charging in the kitchen and she is in the family room. This watch would be easy for her to use even though she is not very tech savvy. She would not have to get up and walk to the other room just to find out she got some spam email or something. Thanks

I want to get my father a sports/smart watch for christmas because he is into golfing and other forms of exercise. He bought my mother a golf watch for mothers day and was kinda jealous of the sweet tech. Although he loves technology he isn't very savvy with it. So i wanted to get him the Garmin sports watch for him to enjoy a new world of tech.

I didn't check what it was after taxes though so I'm not sure it qualifies but i hope it does.

I would get a Nest Thermostat for my parents because they don't know how to program their thermostat let alone keep it set at a comfortable temperature.

I think it is something that they would enjoy and it's simple to use. Mine has been a great addition to my smart home.
