Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

For Christmas I would get my friend the Sennheiser HD7 DJs. He has recently really gotten into electronic music but doesn't know much about tech or audio so being able to plug in his headphones and have lots of bass would definitely make him happy. Also, these headphones would last forever so that's a plus :)

I Want to get my parents a Logitech Harmony Ultimate remote.  My parents have a nice tv and home theater system however all the components are hidden inside a cabinet so that my 2 year old nieces that they baby sit for can't access them.  Unfortunately this means that in order to turn on their home theater, they have to first open the doors of the cabinet.  Harmony remotes are wonderful and I have used them for years.  Much like SONOS, it's extremely easy to use (Of course I would do the programming).  This would give them RF control of all the devices inside their cabinet and not have to open the doors.

My parents have done so much for me and my sisters that I would love to give them this to make their lives a little easier.

Retails on Amazon right now for $293.99

For me it has to be a tablet. You can give such cheap stuff like the Chromecast, which is so easy to use, but by the time you explain they can use any device to send the content to their TV my Mother spends half her time trying to work out which input source to use to display it in the first place.

A 10 inch tablet quite simply allows my mother, a massive technophobe, the opportunity to catch up on stuff on on any demand service, being from the UK most middle aged people only use BBC iplayer or ITV player and Channel 4 on demand (now all 4) is just too difficult.

I wish I could get her to click a simple icon, when available, and "push" content to her TV, it just doesn't happen.

Explaining I can build/buy a PC and connect that to her TV direct again falls on deaf ears, my parents generation quite simple are too used to receiving TV direct to their displays without having to think about it.

Give her Candy Crush however, and she's well away.

I've contemplated, as my Mother is now starting to struggle with arthritis, buying remote power sockets. They are relatively cheap, but you can quite simply put some form of hook on a wall where you can put the remote and then my Mother only needs to find the remote and then she can turn on the lights, and anything else you can control from mains power. From an older persons point of view, they at least get satisfied that things get turned off and do not need to bend over into awkward places behind a sofa or TV trying to turn stuff off. All older, and lets hope more younger as well, turn stuff off being energy concious ans concerned about waste and bills.

Not sure how to end this, however, simplicity is key, and I wish I could get my Mother more on board. As all I'm trying to do is make her life (and mine being totally selfish here) easier.

Peace.

I'd get an LG watch urbane for my Dad. He's always busy with his work at UCF and literally gets tons of notifications a from his students and Teacher Assistants I feel like this would be a great gift for him.

Plus because of his heart condition knowing his heart rate accurately would be a god-send (he used to have a watch that did that but it was low not accurate and just all around trash.) and it looks supes classy bro!

A GoPro 3+ Silver for my brother would definately be great for him. It is not difficult to use and I am not afraid that he would drown this in water like every other electronic  he has. Don't tell him that I told you this but his phone is supremely outdated. Everyone else have an Iphone or Samsung. He uses a Nokia Brick Phone.

My dad, like Linus' mom, used to be really tech savvy, though was a curmudgeon when it came to newer tech, it always took him a while to upgrade. He was the one that got me interested in computers, when I was younger I would watch him replace the components of his old Dell Dimension (Mostly the motherboard, that piece of crap gave out all the time :P) when I hit 14 I built my first desktop (with the credit of instructions/help belonging to Linus!) and of course the older people in my family were impressed, around that time is when my dad stopped following anything tech wise for the most part. Anyway, a year or so later he allowed me to build him a computer on a really tight budget, I believe around $200 just a media PC to let him watch Netflix and YouTube. Well about 3 years later he still has it, and it hasn't aged well at all! I'm talking a Sempron 145 and 4GB of ram with a really crappy Foxconn MoBo, built in AMD HD 4000 series. (Not gonna lie, I had to look at my order history on Newegg to see what the specs were exactly) It just chugs, Windows 10 helped very little.

TL;DR: Built crappy budget media PC for use-to-be tech savvy dad a few years ago, and would like to get him a Fire TV so he doesn't have to deal with it when wanting to watch a Movie/TV Show.

I was gonna go with a couple of parts for an upgrade or a new pre-built, but couldn't find anything in the price range and I didn't think multiple things were allowed, so I decided on this.

Thanks for the opportunity to get something my dad will really enjoy! Good Luck Everyone!  :D

I Would give my mom and dad usb external hard drives and a compact usb hub. This is because they have lots of data but only have 2 Sara ports in their computer. This means they are always fiddling around with the case open, waring down cables.

A good wireless with noise cancellation headphones for my dad.

The working conditions at his job are pretty rough and it also requires a lot of movement, and he loves listening to classical music. So Sony MDR-ZX770DC Bluetooth and Noise Canceling Headphones will do the trick perfectly. As they will block out the extra noise and keep him tangle free and on the go.

A nice big tablet for my parents to do things such as reading the news and doing basic web browsing. They brought me a tablet this year, so it would be nice to pay them back with one.

Hey Linus,

I'd want an Amazon Echo for Mom.  She's so non-tech, she calls me to google info for her. With the Echo, she could just ask Alexia!

Merry Christmas!

My mom has an old laptop and an older computer, she always needs to save stuff or get stuff off one or another.  Bringing her 16GB Apple phone to the mix and the age of her systems her ability to save stuff and retrieve stuff is a mess and may fail.  Obviously she does no backing up what so ever, minus the random slew of SD cards and flash drives.

She needs a NAS, obviously I would set it up for her and make sure it is accessible from all devices. I was thinking an out of the box WD option like the following.

Thanks for the great content!

Really cool thing you're doing, giving away 900$ worth of tech linus!

Anyways, I was thinking I should give my dad an SSD, since I know he's been really stressed out about how slow his pc boot time is(which is literally around 10-15 minutes).

Here's the link:
