Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

A media center PC for the whole family (Mainly my mother and father) as the current computer that is being used as a media center PC is a noisy old laptop that is dying

(Not going to get them any android based system (or alternative) as it would be easier for them just to keep the same windows line of OS' as they have been using in the past or I will get a billion questions like "how do I do this?" )

A Galaxy Gear S2 for my sister who is a surgical resident.

She doesn't have time to read messages and reply so this should help her a lot.

She also plays the piano and sings, but she records on her phone so this would help her out more

I would get an SSD upgrade kit for my Dads laptop and install it for them as they are complaining about it going slow and I have found that the crappy HDD in it is the problem, I just want his tech to run smoothly so I can have 5 mins without either him or my Mum asking me to fix something.

I would get my mom an iRobot Braava 380t Floor Mopping Robot to help with cleaning the house since it's hard for her to find time between her two kids in college and her two kids in elementary school as well as her main job and side job. She already has the iRobot that sweeps and she loves it to death, so I think the mopping version would make her life that much easier, and she always loves coming home to a clean house. Thanks guys for hosting this, keep up the awesome work.

I would buy my parents a dashcam each. Both have been in accidents in the past with questionable people involved, including one where my dad in a Renault Megane touched the towbar of a land-rover at 3mph and the guy claimed whiplash and the inability to work for 3 weeks. I'm not sure of this is against the rules as it's technically two gifts, but it's what I would do.

I'm also not 100% sure whether to post an Amazon US or UK (my local area) link, so I've provided both just in case :) I also couldn't get the exact same product on both sites, but both are dashboard cameras so id definitely be happy with either

I have chosen my girlfriend, who has recently gotten into a little gaming. (Mostly CS and Far Cry)

Because (get this) she bought herself a fancy new gaming pc (fx 6300 , 8 GB DDR3 & GTX 970) but STILL uses a friggin' 4:3 Monitor that her dad used back in 2009(!!!)  Its value is about $45 new and you could get a similar product for like 10 to 25 bucks on ebay SO I want to get her a FULL HD 144Hz monitor so she can actually take advantage of all the horse power she has got under the hood of her pc.

If you could help me out with a christmas present for her, that would be be superb.

I know there is little chance but I wanted to give it a try.

Thank you LMG for giving the fans such an oppurtunity.

I would give my parents 2 Roku 4's (Linked Here : Roku 4).

The reason I would give it to them is they are currently carrying my mom's work laptop, with the 6 foot HDMI cord (or is it cable ;) ) around the from their bedroom TV to the Entertainment TV which is in the basement to watch and stream movies from Netflix and YouTube. And as the techie, I am constantly being asked to find a better solution than moving the laptop constantly back and forth. The Roku 4 also comes with that nifty remote that allows you to listen through headphones from the remote, which is perfect when my dad wants to watch a movie quietly.

Thank you to LMG for this amazing opportunity!

I would get my parents a GoPro Hero + LCD. Bit weird for parents I know but they love travelling, skiing, and my dad loves his boats and since I broke mine last year (lesson learned, always check the waterproof seal is.. waterproof before jumping in) they've been constantly talking about it. My dad loves his home movies and showing the family stuff so I think he'd love this as its just about simple enough for him to figure out (only 2 buttons after all  ).

Man is still the most extraordinary computer of all.

My mom and dad still uses an old FM radio with a really bad connection and i think a sonos would be perfect for them cuz it's easy to use and has got alot of radiostations so they can listen to music worldwide!

Ideally, I would get my mother an Apple TV For christmas, because she loves watching a ton of movies and tv shows, but the current raspberry pi I setup for her is a little clunky. However they unfortunately aren't available on amazon anymore :(

Since the apple TV likely therefore isn't an option, I would buy my best friend a NAS, because he's a photographer and videographer etc but isn't a big techie and has a ton of photos and videos taking up a lot of storage, but it's all spread out over a bunch of external hard drives or over a bunch of separate old computers, and he's got almost no space left.

Link Here.

CPU i5 4430 3Ghz | Ram: 16GB DDR3 1600 | GPU: GTX 650 Ti 1GB | Mobo: H87N-Wifi | Case: White Bitfenix Prodigy | Boot Drive: 120GB 840 Evo (Mac OS X) 120gb OCZ Vertex 3 (Windows) | Games Drive: 640GB WD Green | OS: Windows 8 & OS X 10.9.1

I love all technology. The perfection of macs for my designer side, and the hardware and fun of tinkering on the of the pc side. We can have it all, just not at the same time.

I'm giving (and setting up) a basic NAS with a 1TB hdd.

Once setup, it'll be recognized as an external drive (a la dropbox) by all the PCs in the house.

It'll act like backup machine for pictures and music and be accessible to all smart devices in the house.

This allows my parents to backup everything they have without having to physically attach anything.

Moreover, because the NAS is accessible from the web, I will setup the network drives to be accessible from my parent's other house too.

Once setup, a synology nas is the best possible tech investment you can have for backup, streaming or really anything you want!

Item: Motorola Moto G (3rd Generation) - Black - 16 GB - Global GSM Unlocked Phone

Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Moto-3rd-Generation-Unlocked/dp/B00ZQVSKS2/ref=sr_1_5?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1449134234&sr=1-5&keywords=motorola+moto+g+3rd+generation

I would really like to gift my mum a Moto G 3rd gen because my mum really needs a phone to communicate with her brother overseas via apps and a phone that is capable of taking decent photos. My mum currently rocks an ancient Nokia keypad phone that is incapable of doing anything other than calling and texting. The Moto G is a great phone because it is a brilliant starter phone for anyone that has never use a smartphone before. I really would want to give my mum the enjoyment of a smartphone this Christmas.

iPod 6th gen (silver) http://amzn.com/B011SLD80S

For my rather spacey rentee, doesn't know much about technology at all, kind of not very bright sometimes in general. He already has a beat up iPod and already knows the system decently, don't want to try to get him something not Apple... It might be difficult.

This dude is really into music, records songs and such, uses his beat up iPod for a lot of it.

Pic of the old one: http://i.imgur.com/Q8Lszxf.jpg  I'm surprised it can even play sound, honestly.

Who: My mother and stepfather

What: A 27 inch IPS display monitor

Why: They have almost 5 year old monitor that has a grid of pixels dead, and ink or some kind of crack in spots that leave black spots on the monitor. The monitor is only in 720p and is 19 inches. They and I are both rarely have enough money to buy things like a new nicer monitor. So I hope to win so they can enjoy a modern monitor that they can enjoy using.

My uncle currently uses an iPad Mini with the now full 16GB storage, and (I kid you not) a typewriter for documents.

He knows how to use a PC, he just doesn't own one. I could go with the popular HP Stream but I have to hit two birds with one stone and 32GB of storage would be a problem when we start importing the pictures from the iPad. So the Asus X55 at $268 with it's 15.6" screen and 500GB platter drive fits the bill.
