Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

I would love to give my mother a nvidia shield TV. The reason is we have so many devises to watch stuff off a server or steam it. It is really hard for her to use by herself so a shield can put everything into one place and one remote.

Great idea for a giveaway, thanks guys.

Google OnHub router. My parents and siblings aren't tech experts like I am, but one thing they complain about is our wifi. The router and modem are crap and is inconsistent, bothers everyone and they can tell that it's dropping speeds again. I have to restart my modem and router everyday just because we're stuck with the provided boxes

i would get my grandpa the "Computers for Dummies" because he barely knows how open Internet Explorer on his computer, much less change the background picture on his desktop lol.

I would give my dad a sound bar and sub.

http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-LAS551H-Sound-Model/dp/B00TIAY248/ref=sr_1_1?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1449175795&sr=1-1&keywords=lg+sound+bar.

He currently uses the speakers from a small Bose radio. I just convinced him to get a universal remote so controlling the volume won't be an issue. But he definitely needs an upgrade in sound.

I would get my mum a Crucial 250gb ssd, and 8gb of DDR3 Ram to help upgrade her horribly slow pc that she uses to do our grocery shop and buy things because she has MS and it is very difficult for her to get out and buy things at a store.

http://www.amazon.ca/Vengeance-1600mhz-Pc3-12800-9-9-9-24-Unbuffer/dp/B00569K7LM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1449176046&sr=8-6&keywords=2+x+4gb+ddr3+ram

I would buy my grand-parents a speaker bar for their TV:

http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-SB3821-C6-38-Inch-Wireless-Subwoofer/dp/B00SMBG8QY/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1449176531&sr=8-6&keywords=tv+speaker+bar

They always wanted some better speakers and a speaker bar would fit very nicely under their TV. The subwoofer would go under the table that the TV rests on.

I would want to give my cousin a OnHub router because he has a very slow 2.4 ghz only router he which regularly stops working and has super poor wifi strength and he lives in a densely populated area with lots of neighbors WiFi networks helping to cause problems. From time to time he gets wierd networking problems and calls me asking to come and fix it. I think a OnHub router would be a great gift for him providing faster reliable wifi and hopfully doesn't need me to come and fix.

After seeing my parents reaction to the Crestron system in my new house I would get them a basic Insteon system with a couple dimmers and a outdoor module.  They both have had knee replacements recently so it would make life easier plus the security factor would make me feel a little more at ease.

I would get this surround sound for my parents - I've been trying to get them to get into surround as they still use the TV's speakers! Every time I visit their house I cringe trying to watch TV! My mom also likes listening to music, so it'd be a win win!

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-BDVE3100-Channel-Theater-System/dp/B00BI22U3O/ref=sr_1_3?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1449177544&sr=1-3&refinements=p_36%3A-30000%2Cp_n_feature_two_browse-bin%3A1267494011

I would get a SSD for my Mom. She has a Macbook Pro that was fairly high-end but the crappy hard drive slows down everything she does. She is a Professional Photographer and a nice SSD would really help everyday responsiveness and her editing workflow.

Dear Santa Tech Tips,
I, Dan aka Platfus, found this amazing cool Chromebook that I would love to give to my girlfriend
. I know that it sounds sketchy, but I do have one.

I dont know how taxes in the NA works, but I guess if its under 300 bucks on Amazon, the it's good? But then there is the shipping thing, which is weird.

I am from the Czech Republic btw.

I would, very kindly, want to ask you to get this for her.

But, as I dont know how that stuff works. Is that shipping calculated to the Czech Republic? I guess if you calculate it with Amazon, then it is bad idea.

Anyways, the reasons:

  • She uses old crappy laptop
  • Its screen is broken
  • ChromeOS could be dumb-proof (not to be mean, but when I took her laptop for some software cleaning, I found tons of weird shit installed. This is probably because she got this laptop when she was a child and installed tons of sketchy games. Each game provided her with free browser extensions etc y'know )
  • Its battery is dead (Can be only run while pluged onto wall)
  • It is slow AF
  • I could salvage her old HDD and make external HDD from it
  • I love LTT
  • I love her
  • Netflix and chill

Your viewer, Platfus

PS: If that laptop is over limit, I would purchase this: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Wi-Fi-Range-Extender-TL-WA850RE/dp/B00E98O7GC/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449179633&sr=1-2&keywords=wifi+extender

It is extender for her house, as we can barely Netflix and chill in her room because of the poor wifi.

Damnit should have lied and asked for K95 with MX Reds or something

Main rig: Q6600 OCd, GTX660Ti, 4GB DDR2 Corsair Dominator RAM, 1TB WD BLUE, CX500, Bitfenix Prodigy M

Laptop: Lenovo Z50-75, AMD APU :(

If I had to pick someone I would choose my little brother or my mother (they life together)

for my brother I would pick a small (but good) power supply like the Corsair CS 430 and a GTX 950, because he is a gamer but have to play with an AMD A8 APU and a LP-Power power supply.

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Builder-EPS%C2%A080-certified-Power/dp/B0092ML1SC

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GTX-950-2GD5T-OC/dp/B0147ELTUO/

if I would pick my mom I would chose a small NAS to safe all her important data and get easy access to it. also my brother could use it for movies and I could upload things like movies or games to it over night (140kb/s Down and 40kb/s up). Also the Nas should be easy to use and smartphone compatible. Because of that I've choosen the QNAP TS-231 and 2x 1TB WD Caviar red.

My best friend has quite some problems with her parents arguing and being loud all the time, so she mostly tries to listen to music and such when they argue, but the headphones she has now isn't very good at all. So when i heard about this i felt like i could help her at least a little bit by nominating her so she could maybe have it a little better.

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-RS-175-Wireless-Headphone/dp/B00SLUI5SA/ref=sr_1_49?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1449177573&sr=1-49&keywords=headset
This pair of headphones costs 245USD included free shipping, BUT she lives in norway, so i dont know if that's gonna be a problem then.

And if there are any other headphones that you guys recommend, then please do tell me.
