Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

I'd like to first say that this is a pretty amazing idea for a giveaway. Very personal and I want to thank you all regardless if I won or not!

My mom is a photographer and is always shooting weddings and baby pictures and what not. The problem is she doesn't have a dedicated system for storing her raw and archive photos. She's got external harddrive here and internal there. She's always running out of space and ends up buying another one. It's really a mess. I've told her she needs to get herself a NAS.

So what I'd her is this:

http://www.amazon.com/QNAP-TS-431-Personal-Mobile-Support/dp/B00O3Y7E2G/ref=sr_1_11?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449153207&sr=1-11&keywords=NAS

That way she can buy 4 3TB HD and then be set for quite some time. It'll make it easier too with being able to use it across her different PCs.

The Google OnHub router seems like exactly the thing for this giveaway. I'm always needing to help my parents with wifi problems, and in addition to that their old wifi is really slow.

http://www.amazon.com/Asus-Wireless-Router-Firewall-SRT-AC1900/dp/B017C0HZEO/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449129808&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=OnHub+Wireless+Router+from+Google

I was pretty impressed with it, particularly as you guys showed in your review, so it seems like a worthy gift.

Thanks for doing this giveaway!

Chromecast 2 for my Mom.

My mother always complain when she can't see a live handball fight because of that we do not have the channel. Where I explain to my mother that she can see the handball fight on computer via "the service there stream the match" streaming service and she answered "I would rather watch it on TV."

I would be getting a N64 and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for my Adopted Dad. Because this is what he got me our first Christmas together back in 96?... 98? We spent sooo much time binge gaming on this. I think he would get a kick out of it. We later lost weeks of our lives on Majora's Mask.

He was the tech savvy one now a little less so much like Linus mentioned in his family although he still does pretty good.

The link to the Amazon listing is here. http://amzn.to/1Rpzmfn

Hopefully a trustworthy seller.

You nailed it with the Sonos as a fantastic gift for non-techies.  I would get my mom a Play3 or ideally a Play5 from Sonos.

My mom has always encouraged my techieness.  After I didn't get into a class that had filled up in 9th grade, my mom asked my counselor what other classes were available (I was at camp so I had no say in the matter).  When the counselor asked if A+ Computer Certification class would interest me she jumped at the chance, explaining to the counselor that I had just this past summer taken apart their VCR just to see how it worked.  That decision set me on a course to my career today as an applications developer.

My Mom has always had a fantastic voice, and her love of music runs deep.  She cantors at church every week and I don't know that I have heard a more beautiful ave maria in my life, but when I really think of my mom and singing I think of her rocking out to musicals and pop balads as she cleaned up after her five kids growing up, blasting RENT or Wicked out of cheap boom boxes, and until recently a Bose Soundwave. The latter has been slowly and steadily on it's way out, on top of that getting anything but CDs to play out of it (while possible) was beyond the skills of my Mom.  Switching cables, adjusting inputs and finding good sources of music was just too much for her. Last Christmas I got my mom a Sonos Play1, and my Mom after setting it up HERSELF! exclaimed with joy that I had brought music back to her life.

As Linus pointed out, it may not be the best sound, it may not be the most open system.  But my mom set it up herself!  She is in control of the music she listens too and she loves it.

A Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for my dad (wanted to go with the Note 3 but it's a bit too expensive) because he loves watching TV on his phone over the Internet. He has now an Kazam Trooper X4.0 & I can't look how he suffers from using it... The screen & camera are so bad on it, that I can't even describe it... So a Note 2 with a 5,5" would be a very good gift for him for Christmas [emoji1]

I'd get my mom a HP Stream (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015CQ8SGE/).

Because currently she's carrying a ~3kg 2010 Asus laptop everyday. And all she really needs (as a translator) is Office, some dictionary programs and a browser. Not even talking about the baterry life difference  .

Happy upcoming holidays everyone !!! :D

Gift= Old school record player (http://www.amazon.com/Teac-MC-D800-CH-Turntable-Speaker-Bluetooth/dp/B00NP90IM8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1449156428&sr=8-2&keywords=Teac+LP-P1000)

Who= Dad

Why= I was recently digging around the attic and came across a big box of my dad's old vinyl records from the 60's and 70's. Alas, when I asked him if he still had a way of playing them he told me he had broken his turntable it a long time ago. This Christmas, I was planning on getting him another player to let him get a good old wack of nostalgia and listen to his childhood tunes, as well as one that utilises bluetooth so that he can connect up his shiny new smartphone to it and play some of his favourite modern music wirelessly as well. I think it's quite a nice fusion of old school and modern music technology, has a nice retro feel and would look great in the lounge he's just finished decorating :).

Happy holidays to everyone at LTT!!

I'd like to gift my dad a new phone. Hes using Samsung galaxy S2 but the screen is has dark horizontal lines over it and in order to make it faster/get some app storage I had to put on custom ROM which causes problems...Sometimes you just can't call it. Also he has like 2-3 spare batteries with him all the time because the stock one is just 1600mah. My dad says its fine and that he doesn't need a new one but I have seen him struggling with it and since he doesn't have a laptop anymore (it broke...:/)its the only way he can manage his stuff. I have redmi note 2 myself and seeing that redmi note 3 has just come out I though I could maybe gift him one. Also MIUI would fit him really good because he likes to keep everything on the homescreens.

I would get my non-techie father a Synology DiskStation DS215J as he only really uses an Ipad 16gb and has nowhere else to store pictures.

Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00OZ0CTAU/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

I would be able to remotely monitor and manage the NAS myself using synologys great UI meaning he can just use it to store our family pictures and music library to play in the home and I could even sync it with my own Synology NAS to both back up my own data as well as back up his data in case one of them were to fail.

My mother gets for Christmas a new LG G4c as a replacement for her old Nokia mobile phone and Sandisk MP3-Player. A pair of wireless headphones would be a great addition for her new Smartphone. With the recently reviewed Jaybird X2 Sport Wireless Bluetooth Headphones could she listen to her music during workout and hear her audiobooks at home without being caught everywhere.

A happy Christmas everyone

I would have to say Nvidia Shield TV.  I would get that for my little sister, since the xbox 360 I gave her to watch netflix just red ringed.  She uses android phones so the conversion will be simple and there is not much to go wrong. We live 3 hours away from each other so I that is important.  I spent a whole day upgrading and fixing her laptop during thanksgiving weekend(I didn't mind because she was grateful and really needed her laptop.) The Nvidia Shield would be a great device for her to stream and it would be a cheap way for her to play some games with Nvidia Geforce Now.  Maybe, I could finally get her to play Portal 1/2 and the new Tomb Raider games.

At the moment my girlfriend is not a techie but she's slowly becoming one especially when she switched her major from veterinary science to Technology management. The only thing I want to break her of is her undying love for brand names. She is a complete and total Samsung fan girl I am not proud it, but I'll feed into it eventually I was planning on buying this for her anyways at some point. The Samsung smart watch which currently on Amazon is going for 200 USD.

Well, my brother is the one who got me into tech, medicine, specially since the internship, leaves very little spare time so he has stayed behind, and is running a GTX 570 (He's still a gamer, it's not performing well) so...basically a new GPU for my brother and incidentally, his 570 would go into my mom's PC, since that's all she would need :P

Since prices are fluctuating a lot, hopefully there will be a 390 for 300$, if not, a 380X would still be amazing. Thanks for this giveaway, truly a wonderful idea.

This is a bit vague. I would either like to get a new router for our family, because our current setup always drops connection and has really terrible speeds. I don't know wich on is the best. I asked on the forum and will update it later!

The other one would be a monitor for my brother. He uses his laptop for university and lacks the screen sizes to do his job. He always has to switch applications and it is slowing him down a lot. I'll ask about that as well and post the link!!

Thanks a lot this is an awesome giveaway!

Would love to give my brother a GPU (R9 380X) so he can enjoy gaming too. He's on intergrated graphics now and he really deserves it I think.
