Budget Gaming 8 Core System

Hi guys. Yesterday morning friend of mine call me. Hi gave me a HP Proliant ML150G6 with raid card. works perfect. even i install my W10 64bits just for the fun of it. and works with no issue. Since linus make these video, i start looking some ideas and since i got these server with good potencial. right now, have 24gb 1333mhz memory 1 cpu E5504 2000mhz and 4 logicals. the options are great since i can get 2 E5540 for 70USD.  But at least I can start working on PSU. I read that some PSU like these one, use specific power rails, even that the PSU connectors are the same or almost the same, i need to get a good PSU for 1 video card. I do not care about the raid card since i can manage these from the BIOS using another configuration. So my Q are huge. For PSU is a good start. My target is add a 980 for games. but in oder to get until there these have to work perfect before adding that. So any help and guidance with will great

I feel bad nerco-ing this, but what would you guys think about a completed system such as this HP ebay offering? I'm guessing a small form factor card would fit in, so all i'd need to buy is a gfx card, hdd and windows?

so I have been looking for compatibilities for around 3 hours now can anyone tell me if there is a tool or something to check GPU against these dual socket workstation boards

or if anyone knows enough off hand to tell me how broken the system I am trying to build is

1x Dell Precision Workstation T5400 Dual Xeon Socket LGA771 Motherboard RW203
8X 4GB DELL PRECISION WORKSTATION 690 T5400 T7400 RAM MEMORY FBDIMM

2x Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1Gb GDDR5 192bit

was gunna try to cram everything into an Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case.

I have a Dell Precision T5400 as my main desktop. Let me list your issues with this list...

1. You are better off just buying a T5400 on ebay rather than all the parts.

2. The T5400 only supports CPU's with FSB speeds up to 1333MHz, so the best CPU you can put in a T5400 is the X5470.

3. These CPU's are socket LGA 771. The heatsinks in the T5400 screw into the chassis rather than the motherboard.

4. The T5400 DOES NOT support SLI.

5. The motherboard has an extra piece of pcb that sticks out by the CPU sockets, so it will not fit in an ATX case.

6. You CAN NOT use a regular ATX power supply because the T5400 motherboard has a 12 pin CPU power connector.\

Trust me, it is so much easier to just use Dell OEM parts. Total I have into mine is about $320 USD. (Specs in signature)

yea i began to figure when I couldn’t find anything for it outside its pre-built workstation I’m trying to through something together for under 300$ that would be good enough to play planetside 2 at low settings and video editing and I would love to be upgradeable to run the new fps from ccp games when it comes out (basically the impossible) maby ill try a Intel S5000PSL Server Motherboard base with a EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti (because I'm beginning to suspect SLI isn’t gunna happen)

I obviously have no idea what I’m doing so ill probably get the parts and find that nothing will partially work the way I think it will.

if worst for mounting I can just get a steel plate and make a custom wall mount.

So tried to build a cheap server rig after watching this video but I've run into a problem, I got everything up and running windows 7 but i tried to install the graphics card and it wouldn't recognize it (for the most part). I was able to get it to recognize the card twice, the first time i was able to install the drivers but after a reboot it wouldn't recognize the graphics card than about an hour later on the 50th reboot and settings change it used the graphics card for video signal only to blue screen and immediately turn off at the windows start screen. I'm at a loss, after googling a lot i have seen old forum posts saying both that this board will and wont work with modern graphics cards. Any one have any advice?

What i bought:

2X4GB DDR2 ECC fully buffered ram

S5000SL LGA 771 motherboard http://www.ebay.com/itm/281811738032?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

2X Xeon X5450 3.0GHz

N900 wireless card

EVGA GTX 750ti

600watt power supply

What about converting a socket 771 cpu to a socket 775 motherboard. You wont get to run dual cpu's but you get all the cool stuff that comes along with a good socket 775 motherboard.

Hi guys, I got a Supermicro X7dca-l with dual xeon e5450 and 16gb of ram and tried to use with a gtx 750ti, but doesn´t work. I am getting video only from the onboard vga. The 750ti´s fan spins but there is no signal from that and in win10 only onboard graphics appears on Device Manager. Checked all the MOBO´s manual and didn´t find what is wrong. Should I change any jumper settings...like disable VGA or something else? Could you help me to figure out what is happening?

Regarding power supplies, did Linus just use a standard power supply? Did I miss that spot in the video?

Hi, Just bought a Dell 490 Precision GU083 motherboard (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151980598329?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT),

I am also looking at buying two Xeon X5460's from ebay but I'm not sure if they are compatible (they match the socket but some sources say this motherboard only supports dual core processors?). There is very little information online about this motherboard. I was also wondering if anyone could recommend a power supply and suitable RAM? I am hoping to run this rig with an RX 470. Any suggestions would be great, a bit out of my comfort zone here.

Hi,everyone. I'd like to know your opinions. I have found this thread recently and now can't get rid of an idea of buiding a PC with xeon processor. After some researches done, I came up with such build (right now I'm mainly interested in CPU+Motherboard bundle and how it will work):  Xeon® Processor W5580 + ASUS P6T LGA1366. How does this look? Is this build worth the perfomance that I will get?

I hope that this thread is still alive and I will get some comments and maybe criticism))

Hey!

How would somthing like this do as a gaming PC with a GPU chucked in there?

http://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/motherboard/Opteron8000/MCP55/H8QME-2_.cfm

The one I've been looking at comes with all four CPUs each running at 2.4ghz on 2 cores.

It costs about 70 bucks :)

Thanks!?

It would be cool to use this build strategy to make a cheap htpc to just leave plugged into a TV. Or maybe just a get a steam box to stream from your main PC...

I'm doing this. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated. I am looking at a t5400 motherboard on ebay. There is a guy in my area selling a precision 670 case with 650 W PSU. I was thinking ordering the mobo, RAM and couple of Xeon on ebay, getting the 670 and putting it all together. Now the question is, before I do anything reckless, should this work? Precision T5400 mobo in a 670 case and PSU?

Also, I was thinking maybe runnning a newer graphics card (think r9 280x). I was wondering if it I could combine the power from two rails (molex) using an adapter to 6 pin and power the GPU that way?

hi guy's i'm new here, i saw this video and i thought cos i like to do things for my self and mess about with things i though i'd give this a go. i have sufficient knowledge to do this kind of build but my downfall is compatibility or know them should i say. so my question is, what PSU do i need, what is the best/cheapest RAM to use for this setup and also is the mother board crossfire compatible.. i was thinking of using two GPU's instead of one good one.and if this cant be OC is there something else i can do to get that extra boost from the CPU's

my spec so far are as follows:

T5400 motherboard

x2 xeon 5450 3Ghz CPU's

waiting on heat sinks ill just get stock ones.

probably wont have a case for it.

any help or infor (in lamens terms please) would be massively appreciated

I have a dumb question or two for anyone willing to answer. I am planning to build something like this myself (I will list the Motherboard and CPU after the question.) but something crossed my mind as I started doing research into this topic. I couldn't find a lot of information on if a set up like this could actually get Support for either Directx 12 or Vulkan. considering that I may either go one of two ways, my question is does anyone in this (or the othe topic talked about right here

) have Support for either API's? Would love to hear any information about it.
