Budget "Gaming" keyboard?

Gershy13

Hi

Can someone suggest me a budget gaming keyboard, like the Corsair K30?

I want to be able to see the switches like the keyboard mentioned above.

I would really like to see a volume wheel, but buttons are ok.

I dont mind rubber dome.

Im looking for around the £30ish price range?

Thanks

Oh lawd. The k30 looked like a mechanical at first sight.

err, looking on Amazon UK and not seeing many keyboards under 30 quid that would actually be worth buying. Cheapest decent keyboard is at least 60-75 quid

the exposed switch look kinda narrows it down to either mechanicals or the k30 itself

I agree, there is no point getting a "cheap" mechanical keyboards, your better of going with a good normal keyboard around the same price. Investing $100 or so dollars on a good mechanical keyboard will pay of, imagine how many times a day you use it and sum up then how much you should really spend?

Might add this later...

Aye. I made the mistake of buying a Razer Lycosa Mirror just because it was cheap ($40 from a work mate, keyboard in mint condition, but now like 10 keys have worn out the rubberized paint on them). Saving up money for proper keyboard now, since Razer has oh so many issues

Don't get me started here :P I don't have anything against razer, but my first "decent" gaming headset was a "Razer Kraken Pro", I found on special for some amazing price online. Got it and the mic didn't work :(

Ended up paying a small fraction more and going with a less "mainstream brand" and got something 2x as good "Hyper-X Cloud II".

I would personally say go with the K30 if you want that look where you see the switches. Its the only rubber dome I have ever seen with that look.

If you're willing to forego that look for something more affordable, I can personally vouch for this keyboard that has dedicated media keys and a few backlighting options.http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00MNIGQ4Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1448907477&sr=8-1π=SY200_QL40&keywords=powercool+gaming+keyboard&dpPl=1&dpID=41yGGXSuwWL&ref=plSrch

it is significantly cheaper! But the K30 has media keys... and if i wanted that look, i would go with the CM Devastator or Octane.

But i really like that look... these dont look bad, but just not great....

Honestly, I don't think there is any reason to buy a "gaming" keyboard. The features that you get in a typical "gaming" keyboard are:

  • Macro buttons
    • I have never used any macro keys, even if my keyboards had them. In some cases, there are too many macro keys to use, the buttons are of a different type or they are ill-placed.
  • Media controls
    • Good keyboards come with media controls regardless of whether they are "gaming" or not.
  • Backlighting
    • Same as media controls, you should be able to find backlighting outside of "gaming" keyboards pretty easily.
  • Cool looks
    • If this is the reason you are buying "gaming" gear, you're a photographer, not a gamer.

What "gaming"  branding brings to the table is a mass audience, allowing the manufacturers to make the same keyboard at a lower price (or, more commonly, higher profit margin).

And generally, the less you spend on your peripherals, the lower the quality. With the internet, most reputable brands are not willing to risk damaging their reputation by releasing low quality peripherals at full prices.

I own and use, sorted from newest to oldest: SteelSeries 6Gv2. Microsoft SideWinder X4. Mionix Naos 7000. Zowie EC1 Evo. Microsoft SideWinder X8. Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. Dell U2414H. Samsung P2270H. AKG K273 Pro. Sennheiser HD555. Razer Goliathus Speed Medium. Func 1030 L. Qpad CT Medium.

I used to own: Razer DeathAdder 3G. Razer Krait. IntelliMouse Optical 1.1. SteelSeries QcK.

Yeah, it's not the greatest looker, but it lasted me well until I got my mech. I would recommend the k30 by far if that aesthetic is all that will satisfy your wants. Its no k70, but it kind of looks like one. :P
