970M Pro3 OC? on fx8350?

HI EVERYONE!

 

Okay guys, since no one in my country (Denmark) can give me a straight answer, I thought what the hell lets get on LTT (he keeps talking about you guys on his videos)

 

So I got this FX-8350 Black Edition, and been thinking on doing a new build, going down to a micro-atx, and I stumbled across this beauty 970m pro3. after hours of reading and searching, all I can find is a few guys doing OC on it, but the only info they give is the heat issue with the VRM. (gonna do custom liquid cooling on the whole case, and even in a small case (haven't decided what case I want, might even build it my self) there will be proper airflow! and even a dedicated motherboard/VRM cooler)

 

So one question + one bonus question.

1: Can I OC my FX-8350 on the 970m pro3? taking temperatures out of the equation.

2: Would 2xR9 Nano with the EK water block look awesome inside?

 

Or should I wait and see what the future brings for us nerds with the fetish for small OC pc's?

Anyways I would have to say no on that particular board, what you could do though it lock the 8350 at 4Ghz and disable turbo-core technology I know cooling is not the worry to you it appears but I would say if you REALLY want to you can probably hit 4.2Ghz fine, though it won't be a noticeable jump from 4Ghz. Hope this helped Also that GPU would look quite sick in there

Yeah that's what I was thinking. wasn't hoping for super OC, but can't seem to find any other board that can do crossfire and be a micro-atx its a sad world we live in. Do you by any change know if there is an Intel board that would do the trick? even though I am not a big fan of letting go of my 8350  :wub:

i know because im looking at it right now, also fits perfectly with my corsair vengeance c70 green :D but its not micro atx thats the whole thing. (edit) been thinking on doing a micro atx build for so long.

There are no good micro atx boards for the FX range. Overclocking on one will kill your parts.

Sell the FX, get an intel or an FM2+.

This is the first (by price)motherboard for z97 that can have 2 GPUs that don't need 5 slots.

I honestly would get the asrock motherboard, and see what it can do. I mean it's only $37, and you don't have to spend time and sell the 8350.

Will be hard to sell the CPU if the motherboard kills the CPU when it inevitably dies...

Fine just get a bigger board, or spend $300 on a Intel setup, or just don't go crossfire, or wait for the fury x2

Oh I also just realized you cant water cool those voltage regulators because there are not holes through the pcb.

I guess your board needed 5 slots too so you can just pick a different board.

but I dont want a bigger board, and I wanna keep my 8350<3, and i wanna go crossfire, and cant wait for the fury x2, yeah i got a few problems with this build, i know

If you want micro ATX and a fury x2, you need to go Intel, period. AMD just doesn't have a viable lineup for it on the CPU & motherboard side.

Oh I guess your right, and yes in about the koolance block. I just couldn't see the black pegs on the black PCB on my phone...

yeah was a bit worried about that, but I do have the option to build the water block my self

well I got around to this info.

The 970m pro3 "Supports CPU up to 140W" 

And the fx-8350

Idle power consumption 92W

Peak power consumption 182.21W

Typical power consumption 159.66W

 

Read about this guy who got the exact same setup i am looking at, and it worked, but after 2 days the motherboard died. and that was when he tried to do games on it.

so yeah its not gonna happen :'(
