Heck yeah! That's a beautiful M2! I looked closely at an M3 Comp before settling on the Stinger (+mods) and also considered an RS3 and TTRS. But now the RS6 Avant is a thing and I'm trying not to make bad decisions 😆

PS: that North TX? Looks like my old stomping grounds :)

I made it all the way up to team rank 281 and then I got my latest electric bill for $550 and decided to pull the plug.  Since my last update, I purchased an additional GPU (GTX 1070Ti) and was able to get 3.4M PPD when I didn't use any of the system.  But the 4 of us do use them daily (wife + kids are gamers), so points suffered accordingly.  I'm now selling all my spare computers (5 of 6 still left).  A large portion of my energy usage was for AC to cool the computers, as the systems in total were only about 1600 watts, yet I was averaging ~3100 watts which is how I ended up with over 2,200 kwh usage.  Unfortunately, my power company charges 400% on tier 2 (above 1000 kwh), which sucks.

I'm sad to be ending this project, but I can't spend that much on electricity when our normal power bill is almost never over $125.  I do feel good that I contributed 115M points and 4500+ WU's.  Maybe I'll fire up the farm once again after I get my solar installed.

i live in fl.

got 2 thread ripper pc with dual cards , then 3 machines with dual cards to.... i learn how to get cool to hot air. with out the ac.

but its based on conference idea.

so overall all i am not using  the ac to cool  them all.

i separated them into 2 rooms. one that  i can leave the windows up at all times and the other.  when  i need to i can open up the window.

but also ever room in the house has a bit of a difference temp on purpose.

Sad to see you leave but you did contribute a lot! Have you thought about Power Limiting those GPUs? I usually put all my Nvidia GPUs at 60% PL (when there is no event) and they lose about 10-20% PPD compared to 110-120% PL but they use less than 50% of watts compared to full 120% PL and OC.

@dogwitch - We live in a small 2 bedroom condo (for the 4 of us).  The air outside is very dirty (dust and LA pollution) so it's not safe to keep the windows open and it becomes a nightmare with dusting after only a couple of days, especially the computers.

@OIIOOIOI - This is my ultimate goal, I used to have this setup and I'll likely do something like this again when we move to a bigger house and I have a yard to do this.  We can't easily get solar in this condo, so hopefully when we move later this year/early next year, we'll get solar on the new house :)

@Favebook - We actively gaming on the GPUs (except for the 1070Ti), so I wouldn't want to underclock/PL them).  I'm currently selling my spare systems and only keeping the one unraid server that has 4 GPUs in it for the 4 of us, otherwise I would PL/underclock them.

i look into the a type of air effect(i cannot remember the name)

but its the same effect for how the attic and  how it deals with the hot air in a  building works.

same rules apply and you could do some basic work using simple cardboard and dryer hot air piping.

i live in s fl to.. which is even hotter.

To tag someone you need to use the @ symbol. Or simply quote them as I have done above ^^^^^^^.

@ybryany <--- This is how the tag will look when done correctly.

I am getting a lesson just now on the power and relative efficiency of GPU folding vs. CPU folding. I have read about same, but I am actually seeing it here in person now.

At first, I was folding everything under Linux, which apparently does not support GPU folding very well if at all, so I was crunching away with my CPUs and burning a lot of electricity for not that many points. Everything I could throw it, but my office was starting to resemble a toaster-oven, and I was a Pop-Tart within...

Then, I switched to Windows 10 on one machine, and it instantly picked up and put my GTX 750 Ti to work, which added a quick 100,000 PPD all by itself. 😮 I had no idea...

Suitably impressed, I bought a used GTX 970 and put IT to work...350,000 PPD! I am at around 600k PPD total now.

And now, for some reason,  the client in my machine with the GT8800 can suddenly see and use that card as well. I have retired all my dedicated CPU folding machines and cut back some on the CPU cores dedicated to folding. It does not seem to make all that much difference, really.

This is addictive...I'd like to add a GTX 1060 or something now...
