FAH and BOINC Badge Request

My gaming rig. Each day I've been playing games less and less since I've been taking more interest in FAH.

i9 10900X 10c/20t OC @ 4.6 to 4.7Ghz

nvidia 2080 Ti OC @ 1900Mhz

X299 gen2 mobo, 32GB DDR4 PC3200, M.2's and SSD's.

I've ordered a 2nd 2080 Ti, I wasn't going to bother getting a new GPU for minimum 3 years but now I've found FAH it gives me more reason to upgrade my PC. When that 2nd GPU is installed then that's my PC case full, I might be able to squeeze a 3rd but its more hassle than its worth and it would only utilise 8 PCIe lanes instead of 16.

It took 14 days longer than I had initially calculated due to the shortage of WU's, but I finally did it...

When you first start, you quickly zoom into the top 3000 without much thought, but once youre in the top 1000 you'll start to notice you're not going up as fast in rank as you used to!

image.png.ec5d0f0a7506720eaf1117b73fae5b55.png

Looking at your chart though, you'll probably hit top 150-100 in the next 30 days or so, as your last 24 hour PPD was 2.5Million, but your stats for today already supersede that. What are you folding with exactly?

Ah, I see. Makes sense! We had a user break 1 billion points last year using a similar method.

Stepped it up a bit. Hoping to hit that top 100 very soon. 😅

My eyes just popped out of my head lol.

Are you running a load of virtual machines, or using multiple work/office machines?

I'm running on AWS in Docker containers. They are spot instances of g4dn.xlarge if any of that lingo makes sense 😅

Amazon Web Servers, but other than that... you're right lol.

I'm a bit of a noob with this stuff, been a gamer/hobbyist PC builder for 15+ years, now eyeing up / designing my own 6x 2080 Ti's server rack for FAH but, the cost is like one year worth of mortgage repayments of which in 16 months time should be paid off... I can not wait.

Nice that sounds like a really fun project. I run entirely in the cloud so I don't experience the joys of touching hardware but it is a cheap way to go when using spot instances. "spot" in AWS are machines not being used by other customers so you can use them for very cheap. Of course if a customer needs the machine, it disappears from you without warning.

Definitely getting more WUs now and I estimate I should now be in the RED production range! I don't think there has been a single pause in the last 24hrs. Unfortunately the EOC stats are not changing so I cannot admire my scores! 😢

Currently at 16Mil and if this WU distribution trend continues 18Mil isn't unreachable today!

Can't wait to see the results as soon as EOC manages to update the stats!

Recently surpassed 1M points and 50 WUs. I’ve been running it constantly lately and stopped using my computer so hopefully I can grow even faster now!

Will get a tally at the end of the contest. I've been pretty skillful about getting out of expensive regions and into cheaper ones (hello Mumbai!).  I've finally figured out how to tweak everything to be most efficient. Might be too little, too late in the contest though.

Rocking position #22 in the All User Points Today with 67,490,321 points just today.

Lots of learning these past ten days. I've gone from zero WU to a respectable position. Learned a lot about Linux, containers, clusters, aws, and F@H.

How long do you plan on keeping that up?

My plan is to greatly scale back the clusters after the event. I have a pet project for making deep fakes and I want to use my aws spend towards that.

My milestone is that in the first week of folding I've gotten over 5 million points.

That said, I was using two systems (desktop and laptop) but still. I was actually hoping for at least 10 million since the two systems combined when working say around 2.5-2.8 million, but sadly a considerable amount of time they were just sitting there waiting for work units and finding none. Either way, I'd say that's a considerable amount for just two systems to do in that time span :D

FAH_Progress.png

EDIT: I also would like to mention these two systems have been my heater for the entire apartment for the past week as well. At one point I was up at 79f degrees, and I can promise that they use much less electricity than my heater, which seems to run constantly as well :P

Don't remember who said that technology has come a long way when it came to folding, but this last twoo week I too had a demonstration.

I have just reached 10 millions points. It took me Years to get my first   millions  (PS3 days and before). Then in a few year of gtx 970, not full time (well for a year or so, then occasionnally) I've reched 52 000 000.

And now, in two weeks, 10 000 000...
