Fear not.  It's almost 80 F in my apartment right now.  My FE cards are cooking in their crappy coolers and I'm down 250 Mhz from yesterday.  Really wishing I had the money to start on my custom loop.  I'd start up my dual Xeon server but there's enough heat in here already.

Would be nice to have that Radeon VII participating in the BOINC event we are currently doing. The GPU project is starting in a day or so.

Yeah it ain't the fastest card out there, but it's quite good considering the tiny sum it costs ($209 NZD/ ~$140 USD).

You'll get there, no worries.  I have to let you know how much I respect how long you've had to work for it. I'll probably take a break once it's hot enough I have to run air conditioning. Fully half my electric bill right now is running these cards.

I mean it's only been 7-8 months  with about 40m of my points coming from November folding month because of my 1080ti in my main gaming rig.  

 

My electric bill went up $50 in November LOL so I let it chill when I'm not competing

What I do during the two months I have to run a/c is lower the power-limit all the way down.  Typically a -40% Power Limit will reduce your yield by only 15%

I have mine currently set to -23% on the 970 (it's as low as it will go) and 40ish% on the 750ti year round. Of course that will change with Folding month

but I fear Ill be living in the top 25 for awhile longer... just look at that my conquest and threats have similar times.... cant win for losing, lol

Just remember we all do what we can with the hardware we have and the power bill we can afford. It's not just our standing within the team but also our teams progress. Be proud of how long you've been folding and remember that persistence pays off.

Thanks for the high five @TVwazhere.  

 

I'll be advancing a little slower in the future though.  I backed off on my power limit by 30%.  I was installing an expansion card with 2 XPG SX8200 pro 1TB drives and was burning my fingers on the GPU several minutes after the system was shut down.  It's certainly getting a burn-in test.

That’ll hopefully stop your GPU from cooking those NVMe drives.

 

Always find it strange that a lot of motherboards position the M.2 slot right where the GPU throws heat

A lot of newer ones are starting to move them to the "first" PCI-E slot now, so they're no longer sitting directly under the GPU, and further towards the bottom right for the second.

Some still have "heat sinks" though, which depending on the implementation can actually be bad, since A NAND memory actually likes to be warm when in use (but not too warm) and it's the memory controller that you want to cool, and B some shields trap heat instead of dissipating it.

Looks like it might be a non-issue.  My Samsung 960 EVO is on the MB directly under my first GPU and is sitting at 51c with FAH running.  The two Adata XPG drives are on an expansion card in the last slot against my second GPU and are holding steady at 40c.
