Replacing rental Comcast All-In-One.

xeks

Hey guys,

Looking to replace my rental Comcast all-in-one router/modem/VOIP/WiFi unit. I don't use it for WiFi in particular since I have an N66U also hooked up to it. VOIP capabilities is a must since I use it for the landline in the house. Thanks!

You can't. I spent days trying to find exactly what you are looking for, but the only one that exists was discontinued 2 years ago. You'll either have to drop your VOIP or keep the rental modem.

I don't have Comcast so will they provide you with a modem only? My ISP rents a gateway for $5 a month but will give you a modem for free.

If so I like the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X, it's 50 bucks and since you have an access point you won't need anything else.

The gateway is the one he needs. It's what let's him use his VOIP.

You are renting it out from them, and are under no obligation to do so. In fact, some of the representatives have recommended buying my own modem.

have they offered alternatives?

my isp could pitch that as well, but with a proprietary platform that'd be a bit hard to find your own modem, wouldnt it? xD

Finding the modem is the easy part. The hard part is if you have a VOIP, since no one makes gateways anymore.
