Hey folks. I've been loyal to android for 6 years or better, but I feel like I'm not getting the full use out of my phone. I also just picked up a Nexus 9 to go along with my HTC One m7... so I'm looking for suggestions. What apps and games do you use on a daily basis? Also... do I need an anti virus on either device?

**EDIT: A few apps I have installed that I use daily...

Apps: DI Radio, Pandora, ColorNote, Speedtest, Google Apps (Maps, ect), GroupMe, Snapchat, Hip Hop Airhorn (Stupid app, but it brings a chuckle to the room during key moments.)

Games: Clash of Clans, Calc of Clans, Impossible Game, Plants Vs. Zombies, and I have Emulators for NES, SNES, Gameboy, and 64. (The 64 one is a huge pain to use... the controller wasn't meant to be played on a phone.)

Apple fanboys: The average consumers won't  use emulators anyways. The average Joe will not need a file browser as well.

Back on topic. I use magisk(before that superSU)

I need lucky patchers so I can literally mod apps, change their permissions, and back them up.

I need adFender. Praise its developers! System wide ad block, sweet!

I need drastic emulators for DS ROMs, mainly pokemon.

Es file explorer. This allows so much functionality like zipping files and unzipping files. The lack of these things, heck, lack of a file manager during my dark iOS days literally drove me nuts. I had to wait until I got home to download zip files, unzip it, and browse through it.

Clash of clans cuz... Well, it's clash of clans.

Wifi Password. This apps displays all the networks and their passwords I connected to. It is very convenient when visitors ask me for my home network password or when my computers had a clean install and need to connect.

Terminal emuators. So I can do geeky things like run "su" and cd into system directorys. I also run top to see what is going on in the OS.

Advanced download manager. This thing allows so many downloads in parallel and it always resumes without fail. This is useful when I'm like in the NYC Subway and taking advantage of its 500mbps free wifi but need to pause in order to catch a train. Adavance download manager also is like super fast. Download speed is often 2-3x faster than just using my chrome browser. Also, it can be call from chrome. I can just tap on a download link and chrome will notify me if I wish to use third party download managers like ADM.

Tor. In case I need to bypass my University firewall for... Reasons.

Bit torrent. For downloading torrents by taking advantage of many of NYC's 500mbps public indoor and outdoor hotspots.

F-Droid. Many good apps like repWifi (which is an app that allows you to use an USB network adaptor) that you don't find on the play store.

Google map. So I don't get hopelessly lost and know how to get from point A to B by riding NYC's confusing public transportation

Gmail. This thing actually allows me to clear up spam emails. Neat.

Google drive. So I can view all the contents. Duh.

Phone/messaging App. Cuz android phone is a phone. Agree?

Sudo make me a sandwich

Instagram because I'm a basic bitch.

Also snapseed because I haven't found any photo editing app that can beat it. Maybe not even photoshop, and you gotta pay for that shit...

I would say an antivirus is not required if you don't download random junk, just clear cache often.

I used to play Clash Royale heavily, COC is good but never my type. I loved FIFA 16 but now it sucks. As for apps, Spotify not available in India so Amazon Music and Prime Video for 2$ a month. YouTube is a must.

I will look at all of my apps and imagine a world without them and see if their absence is an inconvenience or actually something that I can't live without :

  • A web browser - FIrefox (This alone can do almost all the work I need from a phone)
  • Youtube
  • A map app - Google Maps( I need to make sure I don't have to communicate with humans to know where I'm going)
  • A messaging app which people I know are using - Whatsapp( I used to think I don't need it, but this is the only thing which is connecting me to people who I don't see on a daily basis)
  • A self syncing photos app - Google Photos(cuz I cba to make backups manually)
  • A third party file explorer - FX File Explorer(It's ad free, and has no bloatware)
  • A dictionary app - Dictionary.com( I use literally everyday, whether for the word of the day, or to look up something or the thesaurus feature)
  • A podcast app - Castbox ( When I do some chores, or travelling, I don't listen to music anymore. So the few podcasts that I follow help me out)

I just realised that most of the apps that I have, are needed only in certain specific situations, and if they are not there, all it would do is cause some annoyance. Some of these apps would be - Microsoft launcher(I am used to it's features now), Swiftkey keyboard, reddit it fun app, meme generator free(yes, cuz i'm don't know how to rotate text in paint),vlc. THese may have other alternatives, but I am used to them, so I don't like switching, but I sure can live without them...

I think the only one I could not live without is the bus app for the local buses here. Other than that I would do fine with an old Ericson phone :) Oh and the camera would not be fun to live without. Main reason I have an Android phone really :)

apps I could sorta live without BUT would be severely annoying not to have

1) our groceries - once your initial lists are made up its great.

2) local/state emergency warning system - tells me of fires, car accidents, road blocks.

3) ES File Explorer - local and network storage access.

4) kodi (or similar) - dont need a massive noisy computer (with full codecs support) to play local content, on tv.

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
