The new CryEngine 4 will be simply known as CryEngine

ExDreamer

There will be no CryEngine 4 or, at least, not with that name.

Crytek revealed today that the next version of its CryEngine game development tool will be no longer associated with a number, as it is now completely different from the previous versions. It will just be named CryEngine.

“Since CryEngine 3 was launched in 2009, we’ve dramatically changed the engine so many times, with so many major new features, it’s not the same engine anymore”.

CryEngine will support development on all current-generation platforms, as well as next-Gen, Wii U, PC and possible future platforms.

It's the same engine, but they have tweaked it so much they are considering it a new engine. Cry engine 3 is ahead of it's time anyways.

That would be freaking Awesome! If by any chance it will have Linux support, we should be seeing other engines heading into that direction as well.

Guess they just want to create a universal name since this engine can support multiple platforms and they might just list the improvements on their engine in their game descriptions in the future.

Why would they not name it CryEngine3.5 if it has that much modifications to it but its still the same engine? I hate confusing names like Tomb Raider, Sim City, and now CryEngine....

If it's such a new engine, why don't they give it a new name rather than ditching all distinction from previous engines?

They're hiring a Linux developer, so :D

CryEngine is used by a wide selection of games along with Unreal engine. If both support Linux, triple A developers will have absolutely no excuse to not support Linux.

Crytek has always been more of a technology company than a video game company. It's why the games they do make are not made from Crytek directly but from one of their many subsidiaries.

Well if crysis 2/3 are made by a subsidiary they need to find a better one.
