WD Reds in a Desktop

Prophet of Entropy
Go to solution Solved by solomongrundy,

they are set to GPT. I don't know why they are showing 1/4 of their volume right out of the factory sealed packs.

You need to update your rapid storage drivers(RST) directly from intel.

I have 3 WD red 3TB drives I just put in my desktop PC, when I go to disk management they are only showing up as 746gb max capacity.  they are 3TB drives the stickers say they are and they show up in Bios as 3TB drives.

why cant format I them for 3TB of storage with disk management?

will they not work as individual drives in a desktop?

do I need to use a different program to format them?

that PC is running windows 7 home premium 64bit, MB is a asus p8p67 deluxe and I updated all my drivers before posting here.

You need to format them as a GPT. MBR only supports up to 2TB drives.

That doesn't explain why they're formatted as only having 746GB of space.
