My first 4 hours of an iPhone

Hey guys so this morning I dropped my phone in the toilet (don't ask how) and it worked but it wouldn't accept a charge. So, I saw this is a perfect time to try an iPhone out for the first time ever. My girlfriend had an old iPhone 4s and that's what I used. I popped my sim card in it and restored the phone and signed in. I installed the apps that I wanted and sent some testing texts to some people. All is well. Then i get a notification for an update (9.1) and so I download it. It installed after about an hour and a half. The turned back on and boom no cell service. Restart the phone, get service forablut 30 seconds, then no service. I do a quick search in Google and I start typing "no service" and the first thing that pops up is "no service after 9.0" and in my mind, I was like shit...

Well it turns out the phone broken now. It's a bug in the update and I can't get service anymore. If I try to revert back to an older update, then the phone bricks..

So that's my first couple of hours with my first iPhone.

Sounds about right. But try drying your phone with desiccants.

I put it in a bag of rice and it charged!!! So I'm back on my original phone.

Well, iphones aren't that bad if they don't give you shit, I have a 5s and it's okay. I need a nexus in my life again tho.

Especially after this, I think they are pretty bad. I'm then gonna call them crooks if they want any money to replace the phone.

You dropped it in water this morning and you decided to turn it on and charge it....?  Seriously?  You could've shorted the thing just cos you tried, and probably did by having it on afterwards.

Would an apple store even carry a 4s? I honestly think it depends, I got my 5s replaced on the last day of my warranty just because it would reboot randomly once a day. It didn't even throw up any codes when they ran a diagnostics test. so now, I have a 3 month old 5s with good battery life and i don't have to get a new phone for at least another year, go me.

Lol. I'm not a dumbass. I grabbed it out of the toilet and immediately turned it off. It's a One Plus One so I couldn't take the battery out. Then I put it in a towel wiped it off turned it on and all is well. No problems. 5-6 hours later, I tried to charge it, it didn't charge. I them put it in a bag of rice for 30 minutes and it charge. I'm using the phone to type this right now:)

I still would have given it at least 24 hours in a bag of rice... When electricity passes through water via copper or some other metal, it tends to corrode and eat away at everything

I thought Apple's updates were supposed to be good.

They are designed to slow the older devices to a crawl, forcing you to buy a newer model. Or in this case, rendering it nonfunctional.

Then why is my 5 still perfectly good? All devices slow down as they age and we are running more demanding pieces of software on them.

My phone 5s is about as fast as it's going to be  on apples latest build of ios. Old shit gets slower, that's especially true for mobile tech. at least they update well after old devices for a long time. Any android that isn't a nexus will probably not get any updates after 2 years.

You shouldn't introduce any electricity to it for at least 12 hours in a bag of rice immediately after contact with water.

I'm staying with iOS 8, I stopped trusting apple with their updates a little while ago.

 

My dad is even worse, he's still on iOS 6, "true beauty" according to him lol

5 is not very old. My friend had the iphone 4 and he still has the version where you could put unwanted apps in the newstand until a reboot. He got a g4 not too long ago though

Its one year younger then the 4s. Its also a 32bit cpu and is closer to the 4s then all the phones that came after it. 

 

op using his experience on the oldest supported iPhone as representative of using iOS is the same as me using my experience with a cheap $100 Samsung phone as representative of using Android.

Isn't that what Nvidia kinda does with GPUs?

This is where you went wrong. IT IS A 4S!!!! Apple works by destroying optimization for it's older products forcing you to update. I have an Iphone 5c and it is a lagging bugging unresponsive piece of garbage. Not to mention this is my second one after the first screen separated from the glass and the controller below it. Like I have said many time before. There currently is no perfect smart phone they are all too expensive and have major flaws here and there.

Just keeping this here as a Apparently it was a bit fabricated, the guy burned the screen with a lighter and stuff. People have done tests and confirmed it's not that bad.

oh, I didn't know that a lighter could affect the phones structural rigidity that much.

I own and use an iPhone 6 and it works great.

 

protip: do a DFU restore and install via iTunes.

Updating mobiles OTA is a bad idea in general really, although they are pushed out to do this it just is crap and will install incorrectly and fill more space most of the times.

ive had my Original iPhone 4 for 6 years now , yay me!

its quite laggy and not good for most newer apps :(

i have th latest ios 7 on it, i cant update to ios 8/9
