PSU for 960GTX

Mchedlo

300Watts would be enough, but you may want a 400Watt depending on your OC conditions and OV conditions.  Although you won't be OCing your i5 since it lacks a K sku

He won't be OCing the 960 either ._. - Maxwell without OC is like a GPU without a cooler - underperforming

While it can load up all the VRAM, it's still bottlenecked and thus slower than a R9 380 4G

I wouldn't say it would be a "bottleneck" but it's not as good as a 380 IMO

If it didn't bottleneck the 970 and 980 would also be 128-bit to save more power and be more efficient :P

I mean, 128-bit doesn't limit it as I said. It still hits 4GB of VRAM. It just costs more than the 380 as there's an Nvidia price premium. From SLS's imgur album:

What I mean is the speed at which you can swap out stuff from the memory is significantly slower. Hence why the 980 comes with a 256-bit bus. 960 should have been a 192-bit 3GB card

OMG sooo many replies while I was reading some article :D :D (i wish Linus would comment ) sorry Im too tired to leave a reply to all of you personally but I have read every single reply on this post. I would see if I can buy 550 GS series, if not I will buy 500W  B1 cuz at this moment I cant afford more (I don't work :S). about AMD GPU, most of you guys recommended it but I don't know why I didn't get "motivated" to buy it over 960, though its better. I admit it. mby its cuz it doesn't have Geforce Expierience which can optimize stuff pretty awesome, mby cuz I never liked AMD, mby cuz im Team green, also AMD card (sapphire at this moment cuz its cheapest) looks not pretty.. my pc case will be with visible side panel soo :/ there is one version of 380 which I like, MSI gaming edition. but costs also 230$ nearly

No problem man, if you dislike it that much, don't get it. Just to throw it in there, The AMD alternative to GFE is called "AMD Gaming Evolved" - it does 99% the same stuff. Just Red rather than Green

No problem. Btw - if you can't get the EVGA GS, get the XFX TS 550W - it's essentially a SeaSonic S12II - much better than B1

Exactly - still not as good as the GS (SeaSonic G-series) but it's still SeaSonic (S12II series). All XFX PSUs are SeaSonic :)

TS Bronze are S12II

TS Gold are S12G

XTR are X-series

rest I can't recall

those are expensive for me, but if I will have that amount I would go with GS/G2 or Seasonic M12

I will just throw out there that if you do go Seasonic that a 12G 450 watts would be a nice investment if you can manage the extra 20 bucks.  Video cards are only going to become more energy efficient, so don't think of lower wattage as a disadvantage compared to the 550s and 650s.

Not really - a 960 uses more power than a 5870 and the 5870 was a high end card in 2009 :D

The 960 has a tdp of 120 watts.  That has 188.

TDP doesn't tell the whole story - TDP is rated by each engineer according to how they believe the chip behaves. It's arbitrary. - power usage for a 960 is usually around 150W and the 5870 around 170W - maybe only slightly more.

True - it also depends on what version of the card you get because clocks vary/etc, but my ultimate question is do you think a 450 watt would be insufficient for cards in said class now and in the future?

Now? nah, it can run even a 290 and i5 fine. In the future? Maybe - HBM2 uses a LOT more power than GDDR5 and so will both AMD and Nvidia cards seeing as Nvidia will not be able to cut out compute from Pascal if they want to have good DX12 numbers
