My grandmother had a 486 back in the day.  I remember playing the pinball game on Windows 95... it lagged just a bit when the ball would come out of the wormhole :)

Clock for clock Pentium III spanked them. And if you had dual Pentium III EB1000, or dual Tulatin Pentium III 1.4GHz, screw using Pentium 4.

If it can do the task it was made to, I can't complain.

But I hate my sisters pentium D 940 only because it's 130 watts on a stock intel cooler and gets real fucking loud when she watches Netflix.

And the FX-9*** series makes no sense, unless they put big bold letters on the box saying do not use with non 990x motherboards.

Worst CPU of all time: Pentium 4 on the 423 Socket. The Pentuim 4's in this POS's footsteps weren't much better.

Worst CPU's:

Pentium 4, all of them

Core Solo/Duo(note this isn't with the "2")

Core 2 Solo

Intel Atom(everything up to the z2760)

AMD FX based on Bulldozer(not piledriver, its at least decent)

AMD E series

AMD Athlon AM2(the Athlon II's were much better in every way)

Edit: Semprons leading up to Sargas(Regor). The 140 was a pretty cool chip, most Semprons before it sucked though.

What constitutes "worst"? Seems to me that pretty much every cpu has been an improvement on the ones that came before it.

That said, the Pentium 5 with FDIV bug should be a candidate. Perhaps the 50MHz version of the original 80486 is also in the running, it had some issues with its front-side bus.

Yet the E-8400 is still the most common CPU... Almost ever...

Still have a couple of in use office machines with this cpu.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Yep. I kinda want a pair of Tualatins for my next project, but money and general not knowing if they will work with the board.

The Netburst Pentium 4 processors. Anyone with a Pentium 4 had an absolute and complete turd, the Netburst Architecture was so terrible that they had to go back to the Pentium III for the Core architecture. Yes. The first Core Duos were basically souped-up dual-core Pentium IIIs.

That was the time that AMD ruled the world. Look at the benchmarks, the Athlon X2 was leaps and bounds ahead of the Pentium 4.

Same-they are far better than Coppermine Pentium III.

Intel 386 SX, I spent a really long time preparing to upgrade my computer to Windows 98 SE from 95, and I was so eager, but the upgrade failed because it didn't have a math coprocessor.

I honestly couldn't think of anything other than that. I really don't know what constitutes a "worst cpu".

I'd forgotten about those, I always went for the DX models where possible.

Pentium 4 Williamette was horrible, then even worse you had to buy that expensive garbage Rambus RDRAM with it. I was so glad I went with an Athlon XP 1800+ with DDR RAM, that was an awesome CPU back in the single core days.
