Audio-Technica ATH-M50X

mattonfire
Go to solution Solved by Lauen,

i don't think so, M50X is a monitor Headphone, so it's signature sound is pretty flat. HD558 my pick if you're into bass.

no.

the M50X has MORE bass than the HD558. Have you even used them?

http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/SennheiserHD598.pdf (there wasn't 558 but 598 has pretty much the exact same curve)

EDIT: mattonfire I think M50X are good for bass, but if they're available, try to get Beyerdynamic DT770's instead. Better in every aspect on earth.

If you were ever looking to get a pair of on-ears for your smartphone, then I'd say that the DT1350 would be good since it has decently loud bass (and lower mid range) and it's great for its price.

The M50X is overrated. If anything, the M40X is actually what the M50X should've been, a headphone of actual compelling value. If anything, the M50X is just a suited up M40X with bigger drivers, meaning more mass to move and has nothing to do with audio quality, tilt and swivel earcups, which just bumps up the cost for negligible reasons, and not that much difference in frequency response.

this thread is hilarious

in my experience, the M50 (non X which really makes no difference sound wise) has more bass than Momentums. and Momentums are much more pleasuring to me, with a wider soundstage (you can't really get any narrower than M50's) and slightly less treble.

I've never heard anyone call the momentum's bass response too much... I had a pair, and I thought they were somewhat lacking in the bass. That may, of course, be due to the fact that, at the time, damping factor was severely hampering any bass response from any of my cans. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if my phone had an output impedance in the hundreds of ohms.

Which Momentum are you referring to? There's the original, the on-ear, and the 2.0. Since I was talking about on-ears with bass I'm assuming that @Thelilnick29 was referring to the on-ear model. I couldn't find a graph for the 2.0, but I'd assume that since you think it lacks bass that you are referring to the original.

Let me clarify that while I think that the on-ear Momentum has too much bass, it's nothing near Beats level of bass. For me I'd still be able to tolerate it, and even find the on-ear Momentum to be enjoyable. The original has an entirely different problem in that it absolutely lacks bass, although if you want to listen to your music at high volumes (of bass) that might be a good thing (so you don't end up damaging your hearing).

Though I have to admit that the on-ear Momentum is not that much louder than the DT1350 is in terms of bass, but it's probably at the border of what I personally don't like hearing.

I redact my statement. I have only ever listened to the over ear, original momentum. Didn't read through the thread :P

Hey, if there's one thing you can say about it, it's that beats headphones don't have rolled off bass.

I still haven't tried the Gen2 T1 yet. What's wrong with it?

According to SSL, everything.

(that's not true - at all, by the way...)

Ya, that's what through me off, too. The T1 is great, and the Gen.2 T1 is supposed to be the same just dampened. Supposedly an improvement. Either he just doesn't like the T1 sound signature (either of them), or maybe he's never even tried the Gen.2 T1. But, I have to here it from him. I'm really interested to hear his impressions on the Gen.2 T1 because I was looking to upgrade to the newer drivers.
