Burnout Paradise Crashing

Benjio

I just got Burnout Paradise, on Origin, today (Thanks to Dalekphalm :D) however every time the game loads up the "junk yard" (which happens right after the intro) the game crashes. Also the audio never works unless I alt+tab out of the game and get back in. It seems like a lot of people have problems with this game crashing. So far I've tried disabling my soundcard, running the game in XP and Vista compatibility modes, turning off AA, and putting the game graphics to low. Does anyone else have any suggestions to try to get this fixed? I would greatly appreciate any help :)

Also, here is one of the crash logs (or whatever they're called):

Try reinstalling the game

I was thinking the same thing about EA, my first day having to deal with Origin and any of EA's games, and I can say I hate EA already. Anyway, I tried doing the repair install on Origin and that said there weren't any corrupt/missing files, could a re-install still possibly help?

Are you running multiple GPUs? That may be causing the crash. If so, you can attempt to create some kind of single GPU profile.

I just uninstalled it and started downloading it again. Hopefully the re-install will fix it... I'm not getting my hopes up though.

Perhaps it's a driver incompatibility with the game.

Hi!

Just registered to add this to this problem:

http://answers.ea.com/t5/Other-EA-Games/Burnout-Paradise/m-p/1425930#M6240

check that and the reply after it, I confirmed it on this post:

http://answers.ea.com/t5/Other-EA-Games/Burnout-Paradise/m-p/1429806#M6348

Long story short:

if you get the crash on the Junkyard right after the opening (before the camera pans to the car), try playing on the "party" option instead of the regular paradise, get on the game and get into the EA soundtrax option, disable track #25 ("don't play")

that's it, game should work thereafter... (remember using the "save & exit" option too!)

issue seems to be with the file not playing at all, I tried tracking and it seems the file is not even present on the install (downloading the STEAM version thanks to humble bundle to confirm it), using the "repair" option on Origin just yields the same result, and re-downloading doesn't seem to help either (file must be missing from the source itself, Origin Store)

I don't know if adding the missing file might fix it, but I'm gonna guess it will, I'm trying to find a way to forward this to someone higher up (or to get the problem more noticed to them) since this doesn't seem to get fixed in any other way...

I haven't seen anyone getting this problem with the STEAM version, since people are more likely to get it for STEAM rather than Origin

Thanks for the reply, I was able to fix the crashing at the junkyard, seemingly by just going into the party mode and driving around in there for a while (I don't think I changed any settings if I remember right). My game still randomly crashes while I'm playing, it doesn't happen too often though. I'll look into that missing track problem and see if that fixes it. Also turning off all non-Microsoft services seemed to help as well, not sure if that's just a coincidence or not though.

you can still get the humble bundle where this game was given (takes only $1 to get the STEAM key for all the basic games), I've been told (still downloading it) that all the DLCs show up as "owned" in there instead of the "not available now" you get on Origin

so far, a bunch of people seem to be having the same problem (and the same fix!) in Origin, so, I can't discard it being just a file screw-up on the store

Random crashes in Burnout paradise can be fixed by running the game in compatibility mode for Windows  XP, however for me personally only running in compatibility mode for Vista seemed to get my game to run. Also, lowering anti-aliasing also aids in the prevention of game crashing, especially at launch. Lastly, if you run a steam copy of burnout paradise and under lauch options enter the "-multithread" variable. This seems to fix most issues with the random crashing of Burnout

I am good at computer

From what I've heard most of the DLC is only available to consoles, correct me if I'm wrong when you get it installed. =p And I did buy a Humble Bundle, I gave the Steam key to my friend though.. The one I have on Origin is still very playable though, it probably wasn't worth reinstalling it and losing all my progress anyway.

For my initial problems none of the compatibility modes fixed my problem, I think I tried just about every one of them. I've also tried adjusting all the graphics doesn't seem to make a difference in my game either. I got it to a point where it is very playable though, so I'm happy as it is.

ok, just verified, STEAM and Origin versions are different installs, bearing different files (STEAM seems to be multi-language), maybe that's why it doesn't fail, it's a different "distribution".

now, this is the file missing from the Origin install:

SOUND\STREAMS\NEVER_HEARD_OF_IT.SNS

get it from any other install (maybe the one from your friend that got the STEAM version?), it's just a little bit above 7MB, and drop it in that folder...that's it!, no more crashes due to that sound fail on Origin

As far as the game goes, same thing as Origin, no need to switch between them other than to avoid the file fail :P , DLCs look the same (showing the "not available" message), but all of them are "on disk" on both versions, the store closed long ago but the DLCs can be unlocked by using a savefile modifier program that it's around, so, you can still use all of them

this might be true, but only helps for people that can't even launch the game at all, which is not this case (game works but crashes when the game tries to load said track, Origin problem as it seems)

BTW, I didn't need to set any compatibility mod or "run as admin" option for this game to work (win 7 x64 here), I only needed it for the Origin version of Mass Effect (can't run otherwise, needed to run since it rely on some files), STEAM version works without this issue, too.
