Are My CPU Temps Really This Low?

So, when idling on the desktop my CPU says it runs at 19-23ºC (it depends on ambient room temp). When gaming, it goes up in the 40s. I had a stable overclock, 4 GHz at 1.3 v, but even then it only got like 5º hotter. I'm wondering if this is just the AMD temp sensor being shit or if these temps are realistic. My CPU and cooler are in my sig, I'm running stock speed with stock voltage.

AMD is known for bad temp sensors.

Temps under 30C tend to mess with the sensors. I wouldn't trust them

Room temp is between 19 and 22 degrees, my dad likes it cold.

What program are you using to monitor temps?

Its NOT a bad sensor (meaning its NOT broken), but an inefficient one at the lower temp ranges...

 

Google this, common as hell and has been for years.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

A CPU will generally only be at ambient room temperature if it's off (and hasn't been used for a while). Aircooled.

Yes, AMD Temp sensors are suck. I'm using A10-7850K and my iGPU (Radeon R7) Temps stay at minus 's.

Almost everyone I know who use's AMD processors has had some issue with the fact AMD uses a single crappy temp sensor in all their CPU's.

Really? My old Athlon had 3 sensors >.> - none of which had issues

I don't think my sample size is very big, but I've had three AMD CPUs(Phenom II 840, 1055T, and an 8120) which all had incorrect temperature readings. Also, on my Gigabyte board, I could "unlock" locked CPUs, but it would bork the sensors, which always gave a reading of 0C when utilizing that feature.

hmm.. have you tried leaving it in the BIOS/UEFI for a while and checking the temp readings there?

 

It should read >+5C relative to ambient...

Had sensors say many times I've been sitting at 8-11*c in idle usage scenario's.

Good laughs were had...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
