@Windspeed36 @Whaler_99 @[member=dave :)] Maybe this should be stickied? This guide would be very useful for those looking to buy a CPU who are unsure what they need or want.

I can't help but laugh each time I see your avatar.

No, as mentioned before Xeons are intended for use on servers and are only recommended if you intend to run 100% load 24/7. I would go for an i7 as you will see similar performance when compared to the Xeon.

Ah. ;)

I tend to agree with Samdb on this. A Xeon is a server-grade chip, so it's not as suitable for your usecase scenario. Plus with an i7 you have the freedom to overclock it, whereas with a Xeon you do not.

but i do use my pc for servery stuff and about the overclocking dont worry about that cuz i also overclocked my not unlocked i3 to 3.8 ghz

This thread is full of bullshit in my opinion. You have included 1 gaming video benchmark and 1 screenshot of benchmark chart with a GPU-based game and based on that, you actually are claiming FX-8350 to be as good or better than i5.

If we are allowed to bring any benchmark then I'm placing my bet on Polish non-biased pclab.pl

Average in-game FPS with Radeon 7970 Vapor-X combined with various CPUs, total of 150+ CPUs with Phenom II x4 965 being the sweetspot 100% of performance:

If you are into Google Translator or stuff have a look yourself:

After overclocking of course there are some changes:

Have fun analysing that article folks.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

Providing random benchmarks with no information on the game being played, the setup used or the settings played at is not going to change many people's opinion I feel.

I find it very difficult to believe those benchmarks when they are provided with such little information.

Check my post again.

There is everything.

GPU being used, Radeon 7970 Vapor-X.

All the games were tested with this card.

And you can see the list of games without even using google translator (slide down, there's index).

I've never heard of this site, nor is it in English, therefore giving no context to the benchmark, rendering it useless.
