I would get all the gold off of the components and sell the gold. You could probably get a couple hundred depending on the type of components and age.

More gold was used back then?

Some of the older computers used more gold in the components because they had more physical connectors.

Plus when a 286 cost 5 grand they didn't skimp. Once the clone wars started you started seeing ISA cards with silver connectors. It was horrible.

do what i did with my mountain of old pc parts, put together a pc thats slightly overkill in some random area ex. 7 network cards (yes the ones you plug the phone lines into) or 7 sound blasters...

If you think all console gamers are "console peasants" then you dont belong to the pc master race

 

but the fan boys on the other hand...

The graphics are all shit integrated graphics except for 2 which have a some low end nvidia GT gpus

raspberry pi's use barely any power (http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/5033/how-much-energy-does-the-raspberry-pi-consume-in-a-day)

this is probably the best option here if your trying to make a botnet

It's easy,throw a cheap 4 ports network adapter(depends on how many PC you want to connect to,and a Wireless network adapter,install pfSense(A Linux based router software).

And of course,You have to make sure that the PC you've chose has at least 2 PCI or PCIe slots,For the cards.
