Trying to pick CPU

whiz62

I am thinking about getting an amd A10-5800k but i am not going to use the built in graphics on the chip. I am going to use an asus geforce gtx 550TI. Would this be a good all around rig mostly gaming and medium video editing and photo editing? with 8gb of ram.

Would be very appreciated if someone could help.

Thanks, Dalton Weedon

If you're not planning on using the gpu of the APU go for a Athlon II x4 750K and save some money.

For gaming and/or productivity? Get a dedicated CPU and a dedicated GPU. CPU's like the FX series (Make sure you get the newest gen, like the 8350).

I have the A8-3850 and it's a nightmare on windows 7 for drivers, also, the missing L3 cache suffocates the CPU.

Current Build

I agree. I tried posting something and it gave me an error so I kept trying to post. I didn't see that it really worked until now.

At the moment AMD wins in every price range for gamers, you really can't go wrong with the 7770s, 7850s, 7870s, 7950s and 7970s.

Just make sure to pick one up from a quality vendor like Asus, Gigabyte, Sapphire, Club3d or Msi :)

Rendering can take advantage of Cuda acceleration on nvidia cards making shizz render a bajillion times faster in supported programs, not sure what programs can though. I know there's a little trick to get cuda acceleration working on the adobe sweat like this:

export PS1='\[\033[1;30m\]┌╼ \[\033[1;32m\]\u@\h\[\033[1;30m\] ╾╼ \[\033[0;34m\]\w\[\033[0;36m\]\n\[\033[1;30m\]└╼ \[\033[1;37m\]'
