Core i7 4770K vs 4790 (non-K)

Go to solution Solved by Samsterstorm,

I would get a 4770k, much better pairing with a 970 than the non k 4790k, unless u not gunna OC EVER even if u dont want to now then get the 4790

Hey There!

Another quick one: Should I get the 4790 or the 4770K? Both are coupled with a 970 and a guard pro z97. TY!

4770K if OCing,

4790 if not OCing

What PSU do you have?

Antec earthwatts green 500w

The 4790 has better cooling, but you can't really overclock it. I'd go for the 4770K :)

Oke

4770k and a decent cpu cooler

What do you mean by 'decent' (Would a 212X cut it?)

Well it makes no sense to go non k on Z97.

I wouldn't OC a 970 and a 4770K on a lower-tier 500W unit - personal preference

Antec earthwatts green 500w

CM 212X

The psu is ok, not bad, but no the best for oc. I would get a better one in order to oc (evga gs-b2-g2/ antec hcg/ seasonic/ 600w or more)

the cooler should be ok for a mild overclock, but if you want to hard oc, better get a be quiet/ noctua cooler

The site has changed....

Antec HCG 620W oke?

Ehh, 4.3GHz oke for that cooler? would I have to change voltage of cpu?

People are saying "ohhhh, get the 4770K cause its better". This makes no sense for someone who has no intention to overclock.

Overclocking?

Yes = 4770K

No = 4790

Wwwwhhhyy exactly... They are both K series, and the 4790k's got higher base clock

Exactly, if you're not going to overclock go with the higher base clock.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Hey There!

Another quick one: Should I get the 4790 or the 4770K? Both are coupled with a 970 and a guard pro z97. TY!

They are basically the same chip. One tends to have thermal issues, the other doesn't but you can't overclock it. I'd go with the 4770k, overclocking at the right time extends the useful life of a CPU, even if it's a mild OC, and you can always get a better cooler in the future.
