Short background of me

I’ve been building computers for many years now and have decided to finally build my dream computer. In the past I’ve built around 9-10 computers that have been a range of very low cost ($300) to very enthusiast grade cost ($3k+). These are some of the builds:

Goal

We would love to combine the computers into one epic contraption. These are the current way our setups sit.

We have decided to purchase the TX10 case so that we could have the computers together in one case. Eventually we’d like to add some insane water-cooling, but for now have to stick to the h100i, and 212 evo due to money constraints. (Edit: I’ve reached out to a few water cooling companies to see if they’d like to sponsor us for the water cooling portion. Worth a try right? )

Component selection explanations

In this section I will be explaining my particular reasoning for the components on my part of the build. If you’d just like a list skip to the next section.

CPU: I picked the 5930k for various reasons. The 6 cores I felt would increase my productivity over the 4 core 4790k,I wanted to have the extra cores, DDR4, and other beneficial features of the LGA 2011-v3 socket set, and last but certainly not least I wanted the option to upgrade to a 5960x if I ever was able to get one. NOTE: At the time of my purchase Sky Lake was not released yet

GPU:  Simply put this was the best of the best thing you can buy in my opinion. The 980ti is an insane card and more then enough for me.

SSD’s: Price for performance wise you can’t beat the 850 pros. I originally started with a single 512 GB pro. Quickly filling that up I decided to purchase another. NOTE: Don’t buy a Silicon power S60. They are seriously the weirdest SSD’s I’ve ever used. The only thing I use it for now is to move things on to for transferring to my NAS.

CPU Cooler: I chose the h100i for a few reasons. At the time of purchase this was one of the only AIO liquid coolers out there. Looking back I don’t regret it one bit. I upgraded to the h100i from a 212 evo and let me tell you, this thing is sick. For the extremely small amount of time this thing took to install its well worth it. The temperature difference is significant, fan speed is slower which means much softer noise, and most importantly its all the benefits of having a real liquid cooled setup without the maintenance. Would I Love to have a custom loop? Yeah! Do I want to pay $2k+ for it? Nope. $100 will do just fine for now .

EDIT: wow that thing is way to noisy. Switched back to the 212 evo for my side.

Motherboard:  Good reviews, good manufacture, was $200 off, perfect color scheme, epic board in general and right socket set. Need I say more?

Memory:  Great ram, looked “clean”, and most important for me was an open box deal. 16gigs of DDR4 ram that performs well at almost half the price of online? Let’s do it: D (Found at $40)

HDD’s/Mass storage:  Long warranty, big storage, decent speeds, and taken out of my NAS (my NAS received a 16tb upgrade in REDS)

PSU:  AWESOME LOOKING!! Not going to lie, got this PSU mostly because of looks. Was almost impossible to find a white PSU at a 1000W+ rate.

Keyboard/Mouse:  Like the feel of these. Don’t judge: P

Monitor:  Cheap price, 144hz at 1ms response times, and an overall amazing monitor for gaming.

Side note:

A few people have asked me why I’m not using titan X’s, PCI-e SSDs, or custom expensive water cooling loops. Simply put they are expensive. I spent a TON of money over the years on my computers and specifically the component’s that are going into this build. I don’t see a need to buy something else just because its newer. What I have now works great for me. Would I love all those upgrades? YEAH! But I can’t justify spending that much more money right now.

Build Log

Day 1: Receiving the Case/Assembly of the Case

Thursday morning I finally received my TX10 that I ordered a LONG time ago. Being extremely happy I stupidly didn’t take a picture. It was left outside my garage door, weighed way to much (I believe the ticket said 115 pounds?), and was definitely a two person lift. I Put the package downstairs and quickly opened it, finding an AMAZING packing job. The box was reinforced/double boxed. The top had all the extras I had ordered (See below)

I unwrapped all the extras and carefully put them out on my pool table. Underneath all the extras I found my TX10. I pulled all the pieces and panels out and put some on the floor, pool table, and other tables. After cleaning up all the packing peanuts and bubble wrap I began the assembly of the case. Unfortunately my camera’s SD card broke I lost the pictures of about 90% of the case assembly process. I will upload the pictures if I find a way of recovering them. Until then here is what I have now. EDIT: See above pictures. I put them in a spoiler because there are way too many. I have decided to include the stock photos up until the point that I have actual pictures. If this is not allowed please contact me and I can take them down. I will make sure to note which ones are stock. If it doesn’t say stock, it’s not.

Seeing how late it is right now I will have to finish assembly of the case tomorrow. Thanks for sticking with me!

Day 2

Case assembly is going very well! I’ve finished the main shell of the case along with mounting all the HDD/SSD cages onto the rad/hdd mount to go into the bottom of the case. Installed the switch, wow there are a LOT of screws in this case -__-. Window/sidepanels are done. Just need to test fit everything and make sure it fits.

Day 3

Time to disassemble “her” pc first. Wish me luck!

While I managed to dissemble her case and install into the TX10 without breaking anything I Ran into some problems First off the h100i’s tubing is WAY too short to reach where I thought it would. The cords coming from the PSU are about 12 inches too short to reach into the bottom of the case where the HDD/SSD cages are. Will have to buy some extenders.  I’ll have to do some modifying tomorrow to make this thing work. Everything else went well without a hitch. Fan controller fit, mobo fit well onto these wonderful mobo trays, and everything went as planned. J

Everything is now mounted from her side.

Day 4

I cut a hole for the h100i to fit. Actually looks ok now :D. Slap some electrical tape on it and bam, all better. Installed the silent wings 2 fans.

I went ahead and plugged everything in from her computer (how a two year old would) to make sure everything works. It did J now all I need is to get those extenders along with actually hooking everything up the clean way. Will update once I get the extensions.

I went ahead and disassembled my computer and put it into the TX10 Chassis. Now both computers are in there J. I mounted all the HDD’s and SSD’s for both computers and put it into the case. I installed both fan controllers, and installed the remaining fans along with the fan hubs (or whatever they are called). All worked out nicely and looked very good. Until “it” happened.

These freaking SATA power cables I got kinda worked and kinda didn’t. You see they allowed me to boot into windows normally for the first time. After installing my updates, I went to restart and boom. Endless circle. Reset three times and I got the “windows auto repair”. Soo that never worked or finished. Fast forward to about 10+reinstalls of windows 10, resetting/mounting every device, switching ports, then finally it dawned on me. Those cables! Ripped them off and plugged my HDD/SSD’s into the actual power cables and boom boots up 100% normal. So moral of the story. Don’t use crappy amazon extenders. Now my machine is in a weird state and will remain there until I get the cable mod cables. Instead of the HDD’s being in the basement they are in the top, everything is plugged in very messily, and a few other things are in temporary spots. Once I get the cablemod cables I will be remounting (yes again) everything to look perfect. So please note that the pictures of the semi complete machine are NOT the final pictures nor do they look extremely similar. I’m not some amateur :P. Everything will look perfect before I’m done.

I also received a package in the mail today ;) surprise it’s a good one. Please welcome (drum roll please) the Asus Strix oc 980ti to the table. This bad boy will be replacing my 780ti on my side J

Enjoy the pictures guys and again sorry for the delays. Hardware issues and holidays make these things take longer then they seem J.

Warning Lots of high resolution pictures

Ok guys I promise I will upload more pictures today. Been very busy with the holidays. Also bad news :( Its actually not finished. These guys here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012BPLW08?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

Do not work!!! They where allowing me to post but then about 2 minutes into windows i'd get some weird errors.. Took about 20+hours of reinstalling everything software wise and then hardware wise to figure it out. So I've temporarily moved the hard drives up to the top so that they can reach. Will be contacting @CableMod to see about a sponsorship perhaps. Thanks everyone for your patience.

Continued-

WARNING LOTS OF PICTURES AND LARGE RESOLUTIONS

Day 5,6,7, and 8

I went ahead and added the time lapse. I still have a bit of editing on it but overall its close to complete. Just need to cut a few dull spots.

resize the image dude not that hard

If mods would like me to I can. If not I'd like to keep them the way they are seeing as on a monitor it looks better. I put them in spoilers and have warnings that they are big :)

But I will keep this in mind for the future.

Sort out the obnoxiously large photos. Even on 70mb fibre it's a joke.

How many special people change?
How many lives are livin' strange?
Where were you while we were getting high?
