Built-in front USB 3.0 mod

I want to add more USB 3 ports to the front of my case. I took apart the front connector and found them all grounded together. Why is this? Other cases don't ground their USB ports. Will it harm something?

I plan to use spare USB3 extension cables and a 20pin USB3 cable housing 2 ports to make 4 USB3 front ports.

Still don't get why they're all connected to each other though because pin 4 on USB 2 and pin 3 on USB 3 are grounds so that means that everything is already grounded.

Ok, but what I'm wondering is if it's safe to cut and separate them.

I might decide to use a single 20-pin USB3 and keep 2 of the USB2, or I might put in 4 of my own new cables into the front port but they wouldn't be grounded then either.
