HBM is AMDs technology (Hynix as well). So yeah... Greenland will feature the same HBM2 1,024bit memory. We can assume that Greenland will feature the same 16GB of memory as well.

from what I gathered, HBM2 is really expensive; my guess is if desktop oriented card will be shipped with 16GB of VRAM, they'll be 1500$ or more

I fully expect main desktop Pascal to arrive in 8GB variants

I think AMD's is way more retarded. R7 260 vs. R9 270? Wtf does the R7/R9 mean then? Also why is there a R7 370 when there is a R9 270? Shouldn't it be R9 370?

you people arguing over naming schemes between AMD and Nvidia realize that they have the same naming scheme right?

 

Prefix XYY Suffix

 

Prefix = R9/R7 (AMD) GT/GTX (Nvidia) which represents general market category

X = series number (currently 3 for AMD and 9 for Nvidia)

YY = performance level

Suffix = = either blank or X (AMD) Ti (Nvidia) and represents a higher performing card at the performance level indicated.

 

so anyone arguing over which naming scheme is more complicated, be less fanboy please.

AMD's is all over the place. 

With 750 and 780, I meant their series (so 750/Ti, 780/Ti); 760 Ti doesn't count. R7 means entry level, R9 means mid to enthusiast, same as GT and GTX. R7 370 is an entry level GPU, R9 370x is a mid range one...

But nVidia's one does change the performance level at some GPUs. For example, 770 is a full core, while 970 is a cut down 980.

Seems to me like arguing over a naming scheme is petty no? I find neither the nVIDIA or AMD naming schemes confusing.

I know that R7 and R9 indicate the GPU architectural level and market and that the following numbering scheme indicates the performance, of each part, relative to one another on that architectural level. 

 

For nVIDIA, I know that a GTX 9xx vs a GTX 7xx indicates the architectural level and the following numbers GTX x60, x70 x80 indicates the performance, of each part, relative to one another on that architectural level.

 

Not confusing to me in the slightest.

that doesn't matter, performance level is relative to the current lineup not to previous. and even then, explain the R9 270 to R7 370

People who play on anything other than low 800 x 600

I play at 1080p with 1GB of VRAM without a problem.

I managed to run Witcher 3 at stable 50fps.

NVLink is for Datacentres. It allows many GPUs (numbering in the 100s and thousands) to be connected with one another, over a super fast medium, so that they may sync up there workloads. It won't be useful for Desktop PCs because we're only talking about up to 4 GPUs being connected together.

That is currently impossible, but you yourself made it sound as if there is 10" of plastic between them, which there is not, actually, there is about 1cm max. There are plenty of them. CBA to link from phone. :)

 

Have you actually used a 3 or 6 monitor setup for gaming for an extensive time? (you can game on exactly 2 monitors to simulate some of the wonderful effects you`ll get on 6 monitors)

 

Or you just saw some youtube videos and went  "WOW!"?

 

 

I couldnt ever give away real money for bezels.

I rather push for huge 21:9 screens that require multiple connections. And if thats too much to ask i can always put together multiple projectors. Two 120hz 1080p DLP projectors will make LCD`s look like a joke. DLP projectors have ACTUAL 1ms response time for ALL colors shifts and bright IPS like colors, compared to the average 10ms response time that ALL LCD`s have.

NVlink is not only for GPU to GPU connections but also for GPU to CPU.

I'm not sure if it will be a GTX feature but you never know maybe they're going to change how SLI works or announce a new PCIe standard.

I've been saying this for quite a while now, don't expect Pascal for desktop to be released soon; Tesla accelerators will be a priority for nVidia

Also that chart says that it'll have FP64 support, which is something that nVidia doesn't put on the consumer cards because it uses a lot of power and generates a lot of heat.

Nvidia didn't take a whole series and simply change the first number. They actually bumped them down a tier.

Some cards were like that for amd and some weren't. 680 was 770 and 670 was 770. The only lacked from Kepler Imo was it's vram amount.

The entire R9 3** is the old one rebadged. Its been done to death and no matter how much AMD fans would like to think otherwise-AMD hasn't done anything to the 300 series if using held back drivers doesn't count.
