Mini ITX build under $600

Go to solution Solved by Jvagle875,

Well I was also thinking about waiting until the 9000 series gpus are released and I thought that an APU would suffice until then. What do you think about that? A 5800k and some fast ram should play games on low well enough right?

It should do alright, If you plan on doing a new system in the fall, then I'd say that that would be a decent enough placeholder. Just bring down the resolution to 720p and it'll be alright. Just be realistic with your performance expectations. Maybe grab a decent case and PSU that way you can keep those for the new system?

Hello. So I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to do a build like this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1qQBU

I want to do a small build so it is more mobile and the prodigy is so cool.

Are there any concerns/changes/recommendations you may have for me?

it works, but WHY, if you are getting a dedicated graphics card, there is no need for a APU, just go and get the FX 6300 or a phenom if you want the FM2 board
also, get a tad bigger of a PSU
thanks for the build idea, totally going to steal it :P

How about something like this?

The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.

It's better he goes with higher quality parts now, and then saves up for a nice 760 later ~

makes no sense, phenoms are highly overclockable and they are very good, can beat an i3 when overclocked, it's much better, APU's are for bottom of the bottom gaming, he clearly has cash for a HD 7870

I am only thinking of getting an APU because it is the only cost effective way of getting a mini ITX motherboard. The athlon 750k performs worse.

Believe me I will find a better one

I would in a heartbeat if I could get it in a mini ITX version.

I just retired an A10 5800k APU that I paired up with a 7870 and can 100 percent say that while it was a good little rig, It really really fell behind in terms of CPU performance. If your getting a dedicated card straight up look at something that isn't in the APU line. Perhaps even an i3 as it will have a bit more power in terms of the CPU

So you think I would be better off with like an i3-3220? Since it is hyper threaded it performs like a quad core right?

Pretty much mate, Maybe even wait a little for the Haswell i3's to make it to the market

I looked at a comparison on cpuboss.com  and the i3 3220 only wins in single core performance. (http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i3-3220-vs-AMD-A8-6600K)

And it is not unlocked.

How about something like this? It's a little bit over 600 but I think it'd give you some solid performance. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1qYrf

If 600 is a firm price, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1qYtL There is 30$ in MIR's. Otherwise grab a 7770 and call it a day.

Why should I spend $74.99 on a 450W PSU from Seasonic when I can get a 500W PSU from Corsair (Seasonic is the manufacturer) for $39.99 ?

Fair question. To me, the 80+ Gold rating does it. But that's just my opinion. Is Seasonic the manufacturer for all of Corsair's PSU's? I didn't think so, but I very well could be wrong. But if you'd rather go for the Corsair and spend the money elsewhere, that's alright too, both are good PSU's, that's just my preference.

I would spend more on the PSU if I had a bigger budget. But being on such a tight budget I really have to save money wherever I can.

Just take the 20 MIR on the PSU and get a 7850  :)

Will this build yield better performance in games? Considering that the GPU is more important why should I downgrade it in favor of an equally performing CPU?

The difference between games might be slightly noticeable, but if you use the FM2 platform, you're stuck. Where as with the 1155 platform, there at least is a springboard for future upgrades. And to be honest, I'm not sure I would consider an A8 an equally performing CPU.

That is a valid point. Is there any word on Haswell i3's release date?
