Think something along the lines of a Vert stock would survive it?

I don't know much about those stocks but from what I understand it could work. It handles the 300BLK with gas tuning and such, so I would think that would be necessary with the 458. My rifle has a large muzzle brake but I don't know how much that would affect the shock translated to the stock. Personally, I would contact the company and see what they said about it.

EDIT: I am working on a pistol build with a SB15 Brace if that tells you anything.

I know manufacturers well enough that they'll cover their asses, even if its totally safe and viable, just because it seems like Vert + SOCOM sounds like a bad idea.

I have always had good luck with contacting companies directly but yeah they will have the CYA in full effect.

LOL, my 458 just don't seem to recoil that bad to me. The Brake helps but it feels more like a stout shove to me than a sharp recoil from like a .300 Win Mag or such.

That might be partially due to the gas system length though. My Bushmaster uses a carbine length, and it hits excessively hard (for a 5.56). Whereas my M&P 15 has a mid length, and it's far lighter.

Mine uses a carbine length gas system too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lol I see, I guess I am just used to high recoil. 3.5 inch 12 Gauge Turkey loads from a bench are probably the worst recoil I have experienced (and don't look forward to experiencing again anytime soon).

Worst I've felt is the PTR91, a 7.62 NATO rifle that bruises on the first shot and makes the .308 L1A1, M14, RFB, 8mm Kar98K, and .30-06 M1C Garand feel like .22lr rifles.

That's slightly worse than the PTR.

@george357 I thought the stock was supposed to go on your torso, not your arm.

Not to tell you you’re shooting it wrong but I found it hurts less.

@Drak3 I spoke to some European veterans that adored their G3 rifles. They said they lean so hard into it that when they got their “pathetic 416” the shooting instructors told them they don’t need to compensate for that kind of recoil.

Not looking to make this political - since we don't want to incur the wrath of the mods - but an interesting read on the correlation (or lack thereof) between gun ownership and firearm homicides.

You know, anti-gunners bother me in this account.  Violent crimes can be going down, but there's slightly more gun related deaths.
They only see the gun related deaths.  So they ban guns, and violent crimes rise, but that's okay as long as they aren't getting killed with guns?  That's fucked logic IMO.

I know I shouldn't be going on a political rant, but I just had that argument with someone.  Like... does someone's life not matter to you as long as they aren't killed with guns?  I'd take slightly more gun related deaths, if overall violent crimes are way lower.

Anyways, onto some other news.  Someone here is selling an AR-10, I'm slightly curious on the price.

That's the thing, the stock was properly shouldered.

So my uncle offered to trade my compact 1911 for two Sccy pistols.  I've heard a lot of good things about them, so I'm willing to trade.

I'm also super interested in getting a Beretta U22 Neos.

Right.....I am thinking it was mainly because I was patterning from a bench so I was holding it like you would hold a rifle for sighting a scope. It is not quite so bad from regular shooting positions. That bruise was after 5 shots lol

Looks like you shot an elephant gun to me haha.

I can’t believe the recoil would bruise that part of your arm.

Maybe get a bipod and bolt the legs to the ground haha. I shot slugs before and those hurt. Your arm is probably killing you.

I had a headache the rest of the day. Another probable cause is the gun is really light-weight. Still have the shotgun but DO NOT shoot 3.5 inch turkey loads. :)

I’ve been told not to shoot them before but from my pistol experience, I hate light and tactical pistols.

What kind of shotty was it?

@Real_PhillBert @knightslugger Any experience with .458 SOCOM?

Sorry for the late reply, I dont have any first hand experience with 458 SOCOM. I tend to stick to NATO calibers since the ammo can be had (generally) for a reasonable price and is readily available.

I'm not saying anything bad about 458, but I like to keep a fairly large quantity of ammo around, and that gets very expensive with specialty ammo.

With that said, I do kinda want a 6.5CM Bergara HMR, and a SBR AR in 300BO. So I'm a bit of a hypocrite. haha.

You could use an adjustable gas block to help slow that bolt and buffer a bit.

If it's worth anything, .458 SOCOM, .50 Beowolf, and .300 Blackout are all rounds that the US military is interested in, so maybe one day.

But as much as I like having rifles that I can stockpile ammo for, I also like having a variety of purpose driven rifles as well.

The thing about the Vert system, and the clones, is that it is a cut down buffer and spring. I'm not confident that a SOCOM or Beowolf can reliably cycle a Vert without damaging it unnecessarily fast.
