3528 vs 5050 vs 5630 led strips

IMPERIUS

Hey guys,

I'm looking for some led strips for my room and from what I've seen there are 2 mayor categories of them: 3528 and 5050 and 5630 led strips. What do those numbers mean? Its the physical size of the led diode, so a 5050 led strip has led dioded that measure 5,0mmx5,0mm. Other differences are power draw, brightness etc.

Anyways, my main concern if any of the bigger led diodes will produce that "bright spot" effect on the wall (the diodes will face the wall in my room, a few cm away). You know, when you can clearly see where the diodes are based on a bright circle on the wall. I hate that. I want a "smooth" light effect

Does anyone have any experience with leds? I'm currently leaning towards the 5050's because of the added brightness but if I will find out they have that bright spot problem I will go with the smaller/ bigger version.

ALSO, IMPORTANT: here is an example of a product I'm looking at: http://www.dx.com/p/waterproof-72w-4300lm-300-5050-smd-led-rgb-light-flexible-strip-w-44-key-controller-233947#.VfG79RHtlBc

now I know its quite cheap, but should that mean its not good or that I should stay away from it? I REALLY don't want single led diodes to die on me. I can also buy the same lenght w/ rgb lightning but for 31eur, if that will ensure me higher quality.

Thanks!

if you want a "smooth" light get waterproof ones, they have a covered in silicone and spread the light better

Seems kinda logical. Thanks, will buy those then. What about the size? And how much to spend for a "quality" strip?

It's the physical size of the chip itself I would recommend using SMD 5050 ones however if your doing single color or RGB since they are the only ones that do RGB and are a tri-chip with 3 diodes inside making it be really bright.

So I should get a waterproof 5050 strip? And hope I won't get the bright spot problem? These things will be placed quite close to the wall, about 3cm away

from my experience the only LEDs making a bright spot are round "bulb" style LEDs

but idk about the cheap ebay strips since ive never bought those

Watt per meter, brightness (lm), number of leds per meter, color temprature (k) (only for for white light), power plug/type, type of led and how often you can cut it (normally every 3 or 5 led).

Those are the things I'm looking at, when it comes to led strips.

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

What would the specs of a good, quality strip be with your criteria? And your thoughts on the link I gave?

I would have gone for this combo:

http://www.dx.com/p/hml-72w-5400lm-300-x-smd-5050-led-rgb-light-strip-w-mini-rgb-amplifier-12v-5-meters-273980#.VfHGAJfW9jk + http://www.dx.com/p/44-key-ir-controller-power-supply-controller-rgb-lamp-bar-power-source-black-234934#.VfHFdpfW9jk

Its a bit brighter then the one you where looking at and the power unit is combined with the controller unit.

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

It will create bright spots as said you would need a diffuser to prevent they from occurring.

EBay will have stuff like that. If you look around at some hardware stores might carry it but it's not a very common item.
