Stay away from Asus for AMD cards. Most of the AMD Asus cards use their Nvidia cooler and it does a poor job.

Not sure, but MSI and Sapphire are leaders for now with R9 cards.

Yes, but it's not a good card for the money. Get a 280x instead.

The r9 380 is better than the gtx960. I'd strongly recommend getting it instead as many people have already suggested.

AMD seems to have done a really good job at the mid range GPUs. I had a hard decision to chose my gtx 970 over the 390 too. That was personal preference though

I'd like to see some real-world tests to confirm this, though. Every one I've seen says otherwise.

R9 380 is based on Tonga, it has far better tesselation performance, it also has GCN1.2 which means Free sync, True Audio and much lower power consumption.

The R9 280x is a bit better in terms of performance but that's it's only advantage. The 380 uses a newer architecture, runs cooler, it's more power efficient, has more features like FreeSync and TrueAudio and handles tesselation a lot better. The 280x is a really solid card but it's almost 4 years old and is starting to show its age.

I understand that. I just want to see where the 380 actually pulls ahead in terms of performance as has been said in different threads.

380 does tessellation worlds better than the 280X and has much better texture compression.
