great deal from Newegg. the WD Black 1TB HDD on sale for $75 with promo code EMCXMXL42. i personally have it and its fast for a HDD. 

 

the first drive i had was deffective and i immediately contacted WD. their return and rma process was a breeze. i definitely recommend WD simply for their customer service. 

 

anyways, if your looking for some extra storage, this is a great drive.

10k? this drive is only 7200 :p 

 

ya the scaling for price to storage ratio is exponential. storage drastically changes over cost.

i'll notice times when you hear the writing process but its never been obnoxious. i personally love the sound of a hard drive hard at work makes me feel...important :D 

 

but no this drive isnt particularly loud  but its not dead silent

for the performance value the noise is irrelevant for me. the first drive i received had awfully clicking noise and wouldnt detect. the new one was silent except for big reads/writes

Thankyou for letting me know! I'm trying to get a silent build for my next one and could do with the performance and storage capacity of the Blacks. As long as their not stupidly loud, then I'm not all that worried.

no problem if you want dead silent check the greens or blues. the blues are the middle ground between performance and silence.

ya barracudas are pretty cheap but i always hear horror stories of drive failures. i know this can happen to any drive but i feel like its more popular with barracudas :p

insanely hot. definitely one of the hottest parts in my system

I ordered 2 from DirectCanada this week. 3 TB 7200 rpm 64 mb cache Barracudas .... very thankful to have more internal hard drives/space on my pc now and the second 3 TB I ordered will be here on Tuesday to put in my son's pc.  I am now realizing that I need to buy these more often and when you see a ridiculous sale on it you buy it.  My plan from now on is to buy internal hard drives every 3 or 4 months.
