New here so i would really like some advice on new build unfortunately i have no clue on what parts to use so please suggestions. i want to basically build  an HTPC for my living room i don't want nothing fancy all im going to do is watch blu-ray movies some music some internet videos and loadd kodi (xbmc) and store my own collection of movies and music. 

like i said no clue but im gonna give it a shot and build myself so do i need a graphics card what motherboard any help would be great.

I know I'm gonna get heat for this, but you could get away with a good AMD APU now a graphics card would be preferred but before we can suggest stuff we need a budget

The pentium is not a good choice the AMD X4 860K performs much much better and has a good OC thresh hold.

I'd suggest an APU like he said. For an htpc it's probably one of the best options out there.

This one is only 20$ more but it is superior and it has a graphics card but we can forget the graphics card if you want and we can't go with a fancy AMD APU with a built graphics GPU

Now if you subtract the graphics card and the x4 860k from the list I showed you and replace them with AMD's super powerful A10 7850k you get a GPU built into the processor and this is I think their best model for 129.99 so if you use  the PC with the graphics card on the PC list I made you  it comes out to around 462$ but if you don't use the graphics card and instead of the x4 860k you use the A10 7850k it is 375$ for the whole PC now that's a pretty damn good deal and you can probably do anything you want with this and it includes some light gaming I think you could run even battle field 4 at low settings on this so pick one of the PC's

If you go with the 7870k you can go with the stock cooler. 7850k cooler is loud.

Ok the Core i5 processor you suggest is a bad idea!  You can get a brand spanking new core i5 Skylake architecture 6600k for the same price point so here is a higher end HTPC below it took me 2 hours to put it together so please read it carefully!

 

Case: BitFenix Prodigy, it's a bit bulky for ITX form factor but it's simple and beautiful, it's perfect as an HTPC.

I wouldnt waste time with the 7870k (i own one)... get the 7850k. its so easy to OC these APUs that even a fool can do it.  Especially the ASrock board have a great BIOS for beginners, and they have good enough power delivery to give you a good OC.

 

Freezer7 is much weaker then Freezer 13, which costs just a little bit more. Alternativly, get a CM TX3. They are great, and cheap.

Please do not suggest intel for iGPU... they simply arent worth it (yet).... until intel can match Kaveri in iGPU power, they make no sense for even light gaming.

If Intel ever issued a i3 with Iris or Iris Pro iGPU, then sure, intel all the way. But Haswell is 30-50% weaker then Kaveri in iGPU, and the old HD4600 does not support iGPU video acceleration the way Kaveri does it...

 

Also, H97 is wasted on i3. you cannot OC, better just roll with a cheaper B81 or B85 board....
