CheatSheet: 3-Way SLI with 5820K and 6800K

I was bored, so I decided to make a list of all known X99 boards, on whether they support 3-way SLI or not with a Core i7 5820K and 6800K

Sharing is caring!

And I have way too much time on my hands... 9_9xD

All of the information are from the motherboard's manufacture website and from its product manual. Some information are from other sources on the web.

Future X99 motherboards may not be on this list, unless I decided to update it.

If your board actually works with 3-way SLI with a 5820K or 6800K, then post in this thread, and I'll change the info.

Update 01/29/2016: Added MSI X99A Gaming GodLike Gaming Carbon

Update 05/11/2016: Added Gigabyte X99-P SLI rev 1.0, Asus X99-E, Asus X99-A II, Asus X99-Deluxe II, and Asus ROG Strix X99 Gaming

Update 06/11/2016: Added Asus Rampage V Edition 10, Gigabyte GA-X99-Ultra Gaming rev 1.0, Gigabyte GA-X99-Phoenix SLI rev 1.0, Gigabyte GA-X99 Designare EX rev 1.0, Evga X99 FTW K, MSI X99A Gaming Pro Carbon, and MSI X99A XPower Gaming Titanium.

Changed Topic title and chart list, added Core i7 6800K

Why don't you make a list of places that sell Broadwell CPUs? This should prove a MUCH bigger challenge....

Because...

28 lanes on the 5820k and then some are used by the board, in some cases meaning that you have less than you'd need for 3 cards at 3.0 x8 - and then some boards have PLX to deal with that?

Sig under construction.

Wouldn't those other lanes be M.2 and wifi, and wouldn't they only require lanes if you're using those features?

Asus Sabertooth X99, 4-way SLI would be impossible since there is only 3 physical x16 slots. You will need 4 physical x16 slots to run 4-way SLI. Quad SLI is not 4-way SLI. It's just 2-way SLI, where each video card has 2 gpus on it. According to the manual, Core i7 5820K does not support 3-way SLI.

Note that chart is only for Core i7 5820K with 28 PCIe lanes, not for Core i7 5930K, Core i7 5960X, or Xeon E5 v3. Are you actually running a Core i7 5820K with 3-way SLI on a Asus Sabertooth X99? If yes, then I update the chart info.

@djdwosk97

They want you to buy the more expensive board. They can easily rearrange the lanes, but decided not to?

Oh, so the lanes are physically wired so that of the first 28 lanes only 23 (or anything less than 24) actually go to PCIEx16 slots and the 29-40th lanes go to the remaining PCIE slots?

5820K only has 28 pcie lanes. How those lanes are distributed to those x16 slots depends on the board maker.
