Teen Sentenced to 11 years+lifetime internet monitoring for supporting ISIS via Social Media.

Centurius

I don't know about that. The kid was reportedly quite smart. He was radicalized, not stupid.

Unless his intention was to get arrested and go to jail...

Doing obviously illegal stuff like assisting terrorists via Twitter is NOT smart.

the government will be allowed to monitor his internet usage for the rest of his life.

I don't see how that is any different than what the big gov does anyway.

When you were 17 years old, would you have considered knowingly and openly supporting ISIS, or Al-Qaeda, or the KKK? No, of course not.

A normal 17 year old person has enough intelligence to understand what he is doing.

How can you possibly believe he doesn't have the capacity to understand what's going on? Maybe he was naive and didn't think he would get caught, but every person in America knows how evil ISIS are as a group.

I just don't understand how people can use that argument. Perhaps if you explained yourself more, maybe I could understand?

i don't see KKK on terrorist list, neither the religious assholes taking money from vulnerable, stupid people ( remember the guys who thought it was the end of the world and donated everything? then they were on the streets with nothing left)  neither the bankers who fucked with the economy and ruined the lives of tons of people. Do you think people kill themselves because life is so freaking great?

When i was 17 year old i didn't have time for shit like that i was waking up at 4 in the morning and going to help with my parents shop. It's the new generation , they don't need to work and have a ton of free time to do stupid shit, jail shouldn't something to keep people in but to reeducate and send them back in to society and he's gonna be monitored for the rest of his live .

He should have understood not to support such an idiotic group

It is only idiotic to sane right-minded people though. He was probably of the mindset that ISIS were correct it is the rest of the world that is wrong.

No, you just look juvenile

And how do you think you look, comparing two completely unrelated statistics? Deaths from Terrorist Attacks vs Gun violence?

First off, Terrorist Attacks are not just about the death toll - it's about putting the fear into your enemies. Hence "Terror-ist". Making regular people feel unsafe in a situation where normally they are perfectly safe.

Also, note that there are very harsh penalties for Gun Violence in America. if you kill someone with a gun, expect a much harsher sentence then this teen got. You're likely looking at 25-to-life for murder.

Just because more people die from guns then Terrorists in the US means that - what - he shouldn't go to Jail? You're kidding me, right? He already got a much more lenient sentence then a murderer would.

I don't think he should be executed, but I think he definitely deserves the jail time. When you were 17 years old, you would have been able to understand that something like ISIS was inherently wrong and shouldn't be supported.

He made his decision. He was radicalized, and turned into something that helps our enemies. He SHOULD get help - in the form of counselling and therapy - to de-radicalize him - but he sure as hell also deserves to be in Prison.

Go back and read it properly.

"He should be hung in public and his parents forced to watch"  -- this is still a child.

AND What 8000+ people dead because of other people in the country and this kid get all this hate? get really.

He was radicalized yet where was the support to help him through that time? failed by everyone around him

Yes I do see that some people are calling for his execution. But I never agreed with those statements.

How can we support this person when we didn't know he was being radicalized? By the time authorities found out, he had already committed the crimes.

You could say perhaps his parents should have caught on and helped him, but we don't know the situation at home. It's quite possible his parents didn't know anything about it. As much as people say parents should know what their kids are up to, there are plenty of times when a teen - especially an older one, at 17 years old - can hide something from their parents.

Because all the criminals totally did nothing wrong because they didn't get hugged enough by their mommies.

You can still be tracked down when you use a VPN. It is just a bit harder that's all.

Use two VPNs? /s lol

i bet he did but if ur a high value target tor wont help

what he should have done is use unprotected networks and not his own

It's still possible for them to find him even if he uses unprotected networks if they try hard enough.
