AMD Hawaii, Launched in Hawaii on Sept 25

xAcid9

Indeed. This pleases me. Hopefully these rumours are true.

UNLEASH THE BEAST!

Still no official spec from AMD, but their recent move lowering 7990 price could mean something.

I love my 7870's, but I'll wait and see how well the 9970 stacks up against other cards.

Yes but the 9970 will be new, that means it will be shinny and its scientifically proven the shinnyer things are the better they are!

These specs have been debunked. However the 9970 will still be a GK110 competitor, so expect a huge improvement in performance compared to what we have now with the 7970.

apparently thats a troll site..i already made a post but im not sure...someone said the website name should give you an idea of the credibility of the site....not sure though....i think the 9970 will be around £600 and the 9950 £450.....

They're a small sponsor of his, you don't see any videos with AMD ads on them, intel & nvidia ads dominate his content, that;s why he's extra friendly towards intel and nvidia.

Eventhough AMD is one of Linus sponsor?

the above post is why. no one likes blatant fanboy's to certain companies.

It's not a troll site by an stretch of the imagination, they're the most accurate in the industry by orders of magnitude, even Linus swears by them.

If AMD's previous launches are any indication, the 9970 will probably be around 500-550$.

It was I who went around in every Volcanic Islands thread and posted that link. But we can always hope...

Semiaccurate has an article up about this event aswell, http://semiaccurate.com/2013/08/07/amd-to-launch-hawaii-in-hawaii/

Update 8/7/13 @ 4pm: AMD has clarified that it is the Hawaii/Volcanic Islands tech day in September, not the launch. The launch will officially happen in Q4 some time, the dates in this article are our speculation.

7990 will most likely be better. Volcanic Islands is still 28nm.

Well the 7990 is $700, and the Titan and 690 are $1000. The 7990 beats/ties both, so the 9970 will probably be on the same level as the 7990 or a little lower. AMD likes to give more performance for less money. :P

The 9970 will not even be close to the 7990 in games where crossfire scaling is good. It is still a 28nm chip. If AMD are wizards and have managed to create a GPU with the specs you can see if you scroll up. Then it has to be 20nm, otherwise the TDP of the card would be off the charts.

I will hope that AMD are wizards and have indeed managed to create such an amazing GPU until the day I'm proven wrong by AMD themselves. I really, really, really , want a single GPU card that can run every game at their highest settings @ 1080p.

I'm considering ordering a 7990 today, or wait 6 - 8 weeks and get the 9970.. what's the verdict

awesome, can't wait to see what they come up with. Let's hope it can deliver 780 performance or better with a 4GB version for multi monitor setups and let's hope they do away with their current crappy looking plastic cooler shrouds.

Question: Can Linus even tell us when potential future GPU videos will be coming? I mean, as long as he doesn't reference AMD, the 9970, or mention when it's going to be released, it should be fine right?

The date the videos come out has little to do with when the GPU launches (NDA's usually end somewhere around release, but never right at it from what I have seen).

ye I didn't think they were going to release something with double or near close to double the specs of current-gen things.

If it was 20nm it would certainly be possible, remember the 5870 had double the stream processors of the 4870.

Doesn't shrinking the die create issues sometimes? wasn't temps with intel's haswell an issue from that, or was it just the thermal paste under the ihs?

Intel uses a tri-gate 22nm process which has some serious issues, heat being the main one & sub-par overclocking being the other.
