HTC A9 Aero Leaks, Sprint Exclusive?

I usually don't like stealing headline images directly from the article, but... this is the only leaked image I could find.

 

So finally a different looking design from HTC, but... it's rather familiar to another device that also happens to be pictured. That aside it's great to see HTC move away from the same One M design in a flagship like device (considering how capable the specs look). My only gripe is that this is the one billionth flagship released from HTC this year, even Samsung's yearly refreshes are easier to see and understand, at least over whatever HTC decides to throw at the very next moment.

 

Immediate objections to the device for curious readers; This may be a Sprint exclusive, so those on GSM networks are a bit out of luck. It looks like a solid device, too.

 

Steve Hemmerstoffer, aka @OnLeaks, has just uploaded a couple of pictures apparently showing off the upcoming HTC A9, or the HTC Aero if you prefer. The handset has leaked a couple of time already this year and could form the beginning of a new range from HTC. The phone has been rumored to be heading to Sprint this November too.

 

Specs wise, as I mentioned, it's very capable. Here's a quick list.

 

Helio X20 (MediaTek deca-core processor, yes, 10 cores, more details below)

4GB RAM (LPDDR3/4 unconfirmed that I've seen)

5.2" QHD Display (bit of a waste in pixels at the size)

3,500 mAh Battery (that's friggin huge for an iPhone like device)

 

That's what I've seen at least and it's sounding like a very capable device, I don't know of any benchmarks for the Helio X20 yet but I always assumed MediaTek rivaled Qualcomm's mid-end lineup.

 

Just as the leak suggested, the X20 arranges its 10 CPU cores into a Tri-cluster big.LITTLE setup. There are two heavy duty new Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2.5GHz, accompanied by a medium performance quad-core Cortex-A53 group clocked at 2.0GHz, and a further power efficient quad-core A53 group clocked at just 1.4GHz. 

 

I'm really excited to see what the device turns out being like. I really wise HTC would settle on a flagship, and considering this is carrier exclusive to Sprint (this November), it's unfortunate. So what do you guys think? If you're not with Sprint, do you wish you could have access to this phone? Or much like the One M9, is this another reason to not buy an HTC device?

That gold is horrible, but I like the battery. Looks like it should be able to get decent battery life but uuuuuugggggggghhhhh, big phones. Why..

The gold is terrible, but as far as size it really doesn't look that much larger than the iPhone 6. Pretty decently sized actually, but I'm used to the LG G4 and the OnePlus One, so I'm a bit biased.

I think the iPhone six is a little bit too big, but that's because I prefer things I can one hand.

I think the iPhone six is a little bit too big, but that's because I prefer things I can one hand.

I'll operate my LG G4 one handed. It's a bit too much to handle in some cases but as long as I'm not blogging from my phone, it's manageable.

Samsung took cues from the iPhone 6 design and made theirs unique. I can respect that. But this, I can't. (judging from the back only of course, not to mention the blurry image. Opinion might change when I see the actual image)

HTC is back to making specialized phones for carriers :/ although I believe their hand is forced now as I'm assuming their getting some money from Sprint in developing an exclusive phone.

It's almost as though they've completely given up design entirely. Let's just copy now.

I would never buy this phone. I don't like the look. I do like the battery, but that wouldn't bring me to buy such a blatant rip off of another companies phone.

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.
