'' turns into ' '

Go to solution Solved by daniellearmouth,

Can't you use quotation marks rather than two apostrophes?

MonoDevelop has a quirk where it modifies how code is formatted.

When i try to make '' in Unity and codeacademy they turn into ' ' with spaces inside of them which i cant remove... Have to copy paste all the time.

Halp?  :wacko:

'' -> ' '

I don't know how to fix it, but I will just add to this that Unity3D did this for me to at school.. So probably a fault in Unity itself

Well, sadly its the same thing in codeacademy  :(

I have also tried googling and they say its the keyboard settings that you should use like Enlgish (US) instead of English (UK), but Im using a Nordic keyboard so :P

Shift+'="

Do you always type with two apostrophes? I just hold shift and hit the key once for quotation marks.

they do this to save you from the headache of a syntax error that you wouldn't like to debug.

"two apostrophes" is not the same as "quotation mark". In programming specifically, two apostrophes mean "empty string" at best, and something like

''a string right here''

is nothing but a syntax error, because you put there a string literal and then you typed something right after it that has no meaning in that context.

to write string literals, either use one apostrophe or the true quotation marks (depending on what your language allows)
