MSI H81M-P33 BIOS UPDATE G3258?

Hello, I recently purchased the MSI H81M-P33 and G3258 and I noticed that some people say I need bios update 7817v15 to make it compatible but others say that I need 7817v15 to be able to overclock, so i checked on the msi website and it says that i do need 7817v15 but I cant find that bios update on the website. My motherboard says MS-7817 V1.2. So please help me.

you will most likely need a non haswell refresh (older) CPU in hand in order to perform a bios update to v1.6 or newer on your motherboard.

i still recommend updating to the latest BIOS obviously.

Do, you know of any place I can possibly take it to update the bios?

any nearby computer repair/parts shop will do that for you for 20$...just call on phone and ask.

Thanks, also im building this pc for school and maybe later on for gaming and I found Kingston hyperx 1866m and the 1600 both for $24

(2x2GB) will this make any difference even though my motherboard only supports 1600 and my cpu supports 1333?

That mobo only has option for 1066mhz, 1333mhz and 1400mhz. Either kit should work, it will just down clock to mobo default.

i3-4170, H81 board, 8GB DDR3, Crucial M4, GTX 770, Xigmatek Vangaurd Case, Creative Titanium X-fi, Razer Carcharias, 500w PSU, 24" VA panel and a 42" IPS. Thinking about getting a plant.

performance wise it won't change anything but for the love of god do NOT get a 2x2gb kit if your board only has TWO dimm slots...you leave no room for future expansion that way and 4GB is really not enough these days you want at least 8GB if you cant afford a 2x4GB kit right now just get a single 4GB stick it will be much better...that way you can upgrade to 8gb without having to toss away these ram sticks...
