"Hey Cortana, wake up my PC!" A possibility with Intel Skylake CPUs

GoodBytes

Intel announced a new Skylake CPUs feature which works with Windows 10. This new feature enables the CPU to always listening to your mic when your system is sleeping. Much like the XBox One with Kinect when enabled, it will allow a user to be able to wake up the system if it is sleeping by saying, "Cortana, wake up" or a similar voice command.

Intel presented this feature at its Developer Forum in San Francisco, yesterday. The company says that its current Core M series CPUs already supports this feature as well, and should be enabled in Windows 10.

No news however, if Windows 10 currently released build actually support this feature or an update is expected to be out later on. I can't verify, I don't have a Skylake CPU or a Core M one. The feature is Skylake and Core M exclusive as it is has the built-in hardware to be able to support this feature.

So Microsoft not only want to know everything you type but everything you say as well :P

maybe one day I can wake it up by giving it my DNA sample and donating my sperm for it to build a clone army

Am I the only one who is really not comfortable with the "Always Listening" concept?

Because jiggling the mouse has become too obsolete of a way to wake your PC.

i'd like cortana if it did stuff local, instead of sending stuff to microderp.

also, if it was local, i'd totally use this, but i'd rather not have my pc send a stream of microphone sound to MS all fken night...

Amazing how they are just now getting around to this when I've been doing something similar on a local level for a couple years.

Cortana is cool and all, but I personally would not be comfortable with a "always listening" feature. The only way I would probably take advantage of this would be if I was 100% sure that the data it was listening to was not being recorded or transmitted in anyway to somewhere offsite. If it was a 'completely local, analyze the speech, then discard' system then I may use it. But lets be honest, that would never happen because Microsoft it looking to use the data to "better optimize the rich features of Windows 10".

And here I was just thinking how inconvenient it was to jiggle the mouse for a moment, and that I'd much rather shout at my PC like a lunatic. Intel delivers.

or just press the damn button on the PC that says "Power"

hmmm

has lazy gone to far.

You still have to talk for it to happen so no. The day you can wake up your computer by thinking about it will be the day.

1. It's a feature you have to enable.

2. I cant believe people are still blaming microsoft for this optional feature. The circlejerk is real.

3. I unlike everyone in the world dont care if a chip listens to what I'm saying to catch" Cortana, wake up. While yes it's lazy as fuck it could be good in certain situations where your hands are otherwise engaged.
