144hz Ultrawide

iamdarkbowser

I have been looking for cheap 144hz monitors and I had some parameters, either an ultrawide or 3 normal widescreen monitors but I realized I will not be able to run 3 monitors at that fps so I have to go with an ultrawide unless there are better ideas that do not involve a different graphics card, any suggestions? Also 2k is preferable but 1080p is acceptable.

I am fairly certain 144hz ultra wide does not exist...

Find him something that would run rocket league fine on two HD7950s in crossfire.

Yes, but it's 1080P it will look like shit.

We really need a 3440x1440 with 144hz refresh rate and maybe G-SYNC.

Yeah, I had one too 2 months ago, but could never move back now  :P

Imo 1440P is way better resolution then 4K, it has been out for 12 year now since the Mac display in 2003.

Acer xz350cu - 35inch, VA, 2560x1080, 144hz + freesync

Acer z35 - 35inch, VA, 2560x1080, 144hz + gsync

Acer x34 - 34inch, IPS,3440x1440, 100hz + gsync

Your welcome :)

Theres also

Acer xr341ck - 34inch, IPS, 3440x1440, freesync ... but i skipped that one cuz its 75hz. I really think 100hz monitor should be the lowest you buy nowadays for gaming.

Ultrawide at 144Hz only happens at 1080p. The X34 has 1440p with 100Hz + Gsync but the cheaper option is the BenQ.

The reason being for this, is that these large ultrawide displays the majority of the time will come with an IPS display and it is currently a lot more difficult to have super high refresh rates with an IPS display.

yeah good point.  Plus, aren't there bandwidth limitations for 3440x1440 144hz?  Is that also why we don't see 4k above 60hz?

Yeah, there are bandwidth limitations for 3440x1440 144hz, the highest it can go is 3440x1440 109hz

Ah ok, thanks.  You know what though, I'd be pretty happy with 100 hz, and I think the vast majority of gamers would be as well.  I would pay good money for a 3440x1440 100hz Gsync monitor.

Yes, but 100hz and 144hz is still a big difference.

Manufactures are too lazy to make displays that require either 2 or even 4 cables like back in the old days.

The first 4K display in 2001 required four DVI-D cables or something like that for 3840×2400 @ 41hz

I don't think it's laziness so much as they think it's a better investment to wait until GPU manufacturers start making cards with DP 1.3 or hell, even MHL. Why bother with two cables when it's going to get replaced with one in less than a years time?

Well, I really hope Pascal will have Displayport 1.3 or 1.4a for 4K 120hz, otherwise what's the point in realising more powerfull GPU's with HBM V2 which is made for high resolutions

I'd be very surprised if by around this time next year DP 1.3 isn't out. 1.4 will probably take more time as it's only recently been standardized. They may pull an Intel and skip 1.3 all together lol :P

I would like to see some of this technology make it's way into TVs as well as most of them are still running HDMI 1.4 which can't take full potential of a TVs 60hz refresh rate.

Ummm no... all TV's have HDMI 2.0 now unless you buy a crappy old 2013 model. My 4K TV that I bought one year ago has HDMI 2.0

Wasn't aware. I have a Plasma from 2012 so what do I know? Well hopefully if they start churning out 120hz on DP 1.3/1.4 HDMI will catch up so we can finally have 120hz fantasy football on a 65" 4k TV 8-)
