Server Rails

Im planning on ditching my tower servers and reinvesting in rack servers, I've been looking for hours on what cabinet I need, I am looking to get a 21U:

I now need to know what rails to get, or if anyone can tell me, what Linus is holding: https://youtu.be/0wvBJWjoFwY?t=6m10s

Thank you in advance.

You have to use the rails that come (or are for) with your rackmount device.

You rarely find compatibilty issues with rails that are for rack cabinets (allthough i have had this before, you just move the supporting cabinet rackmount struts)

Yes your right dell rails only work on dell servers, this also depends on the model of the server, same for HP, Fujitsu, sun, supermicro etc etc.

When buying a cabinet you just need to watch out for the depth as anything thats less than 8000mm deep is a network devices only cabient so for routers, switches, they dont fit servers

We just buy shelves and pop on servers that we can't obtain a rack mount kit for.

Im guessing you meant 800mm. And thanks for that I think I'm just going to go with a Nocro cabinet and rails as they are the only ones I can find that sell both cabinets and rails.

But on last question, should the chases fit the rails? So if I bought a server from www.broadberry.com it "should" work with Norco rails?

For rails, you must buy them to fit your server.  The racks have standard rail mounts and basically any rail will fit in any rack.  This is NOT true for servers though, you often need to buy your rails with your server to make sure they work.  Often they are an option or included with the server.

TL;DR check with the company you buy your server from for what rails are compatible.

Normally you get them when you buy the server.

Lots of people think towers are just 4U servers, this is not the case, you will find that your cases do not have mounting brackets for the rails. Best thing you can do is to purchase a shelf and put the server on the shelf, then going forward make sure your server cases are up to 1/2/3/4U spec.

Yup, its all sorted now the 4U and 3U cases I ordered come with rails that fit with the cabinet, but the 1U server doesn't so I've just bought some basic none sliding ones.

Thanks for you help :)
