Updates in spoilers

Unexpected Update 1

Update 2, Forever Alone as Well :c

Update 3, Many Many Months Later, Still Alone. Big Upgrades!

Used For

It is used as a HTPC at home, and a LAN rig for when I go to friends houses, I got sick of taking my main rig everywhere. Also most of the parts I got for a really nice deal, so that was nice.

The case is awful, but it's what I have to deal with.

bXKIUfW.jpg

Ah yes, a Xeon sticker must mean it has a FX 8120 in it. :P

L0bS58b.jpg

Looks like plenty of room for cable management back here... :/

ZS114Zo.jpg

QqQgvZv.jpg

Have no clue what this is at all.

KuGstZc.jpg

It even dented from my phone falling on it. (HTC One M7, also what took the photos.)

j8NKC0a.jpg

Onto the GTX 480. Now this thing is a mystery, it lasted a hour the day I bought it, bluescreened, then never displayed anything ever again, so it became an ornament, yesterday I decided to try it again, and bam it began working, it hasn't had any instability. :o

ScrXclM.jpg

Zkat3z2.jpg

Poor thing, it used to be a coaster before I owned it, and it's been dropped, that actually dented a heatpipe, and the pcb has been slid across my blanket.

zuSPDjw.jpg

Moving on from that, lets replace this factory thermal paste!

IlKvBsV.jpg

Love that, "Caution Hot" sticker on the back of it. Kind of funny cause I had to wait an hour for it to be cool enough to take out of the system seeing it was idling at 76C...

Z0rqDMq.jpg

u7si1wQ.jpg

KI39T67.jpg

Ah, looks nicer when it's cleaned off. Think its hilarious that it has an IHS when its a gpu. :P

ZgupnX7.jpg

Not modular, which I hate, but the case doesn't have a window, so why does it matter?

nK1qJUm.jpg

a3CyNW3.jpg

gv4fsn8.jpg

H0tjzpi.jpg

And finished!

cutsq9b.jpg

Sadly I do not have pictures of the motherboard or CPU. Not really much else to show about it really. And honestly it would still be running a Athlon II x4 630 if I didn't find a 8120 for such a good deal.

@vinyldash303 cause fermi @tmcclelland455 cause gtx 480 @TDP_Equinox cause FX 8120 @TheSLSAMG idk why not? @KingCry because why not Can't think of anyone else so I guess that's it.

Unexpected Update 1

Of course it needed an update since it couldn't go right with my luck...

The 2 month old motherboard crapped out for no apparent reason last night... It refused to boot into windows when I went to turn it on, so I went into the bios, instant lockup when booted into the bios. Cleared CMOs, same thing, but it booted into windows... Except windows is mostly corrupted now and it pushes 1.56v through the cpu now... Yay time to rma a motherboard.... Probably will sell the board with the athlon and get something better for my 8120. :(

No one seems to care about this at all. :( 3rd post of me all alone in a row...

Update 2

Forgot Gigabyte put dualbioses on their motherboards, even low end ones like this one. Really should try to find a decent 990FX board like a Sabertooth to see what this 8120 can really do. :( Just glad it is working right now.  Now @vinyldash303 303 and I can do a livestream of 480s cooking mini marshmallows on the exhausts of them. :P

P.S, my old i5 650 with its 6GB of ram all on a dell motherboard is going to come back to me soon. :) I don't know what to do with it though. :/

Update 3

Well even though this thread is still pretty dead, might as well update it.

New GPU: Asus GTX 680 4GB DCII ($125)

New Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z ($135)

I might replace the case with like a Source 210 in the future if I decide to.

Anyway, onto the pictures! :D
