The only people I've come across with issues are those that have a potentially borked version of Windows 7/8.1. Their install is already jacked up, so they overwrite those files, probably have duplicate files, and corrupt/conflicting files lying around. So Windows has issues.

 

If you have a completely clean install, there's no reason you should have any troubles.

 

Yeah, I think people need to "prepare" before doing the upgrade. They should run a virus and malware scan, disk cleanup, etc. make sure everything's in order first and I don't think they're doing that which is leading to problems. If you have a good healthy install and you have sufficient space on your OS storage device (you need at least 20GB for windows 8.1 temp back up), then you shouldn't run into any problems. 

 

For those running Nvidia, I would maybe suggest uninstalling geforce experience and all drivers before performing the upgrade, then installing the latest drivers, fresh, after the upgrade is complete. That might be one way to avoid the drivers issues that many Nvidia users have been experiencing. If I were running an Nvidia GPU, that's what I'd do.

My Lenovo Y50 was having issues running command prompt after upgrading. it kept saying command prompt couldn't start, or something similar.

So i uninstalled geforce experience, and it went away.

 

How that is affecting cmd.exe in system32, I'll never know.

Nothing but a resource hog, it caused lower performance in many games and caused crashes as well. It's completely unnecessary and I always advise people to do a custom install when they install new AMD drivers so you can opt to NOT install the gaming evolved app.

It shows that the work they have done on Windows 10, coupled with the marketing push and the decision to make it a free upgrade is really working. Microsoft really should make upgrades for people one or two versions behind free forever for future versions of Windows, to continue encouraging people to upgrade. They can continue charging people for purchasing a fresh copy for their new devices, but make it free for upgraders.

restart a couple of times and then install the latest Win10 drivers and it should be fine

 

This, was bugging the crap outta me. I can vouch for this solution. It took 3 restarts to get geforce experience to get its head out of its rear and install the drivers

My 4 major complaints so far:

2. All blizzard games and programs were removed, so I have to re-download diablo III RoS and Starcraft II HotS..

I have the battle.net client, WoW, HS and SC2 installed and it didn't remove any of those.

And I still can't update to build 10240 from build 10162, I just keep reverting back to my old build whenever i try. :(

For number 3, just use Control Panel as always. It is still available and you can uninstall things just as you always have.

I had been typing "Add or remove programs" into the search and it was bringing up a new shitty one from windows 10 and not the one in control panel.

 

I wish microsoft would just use one fucking thing for settings, not spread it out over control panel, pc settings, etc.. (If they're gonna have both, then have both separate, with control panel working exactly like in windows 7, no pc settings bullshit when changing a setting...)

Also right click start menu or Win Key + X but yeah, having CP & Settings is just daft.

I'd like to see actual proof, not from the OP of the thread, but from Microsoft.

As badly as they want people to switch over to this version of Windows, I wouldn't doubt if the numbers are extremely inflated.

 

If you want people to upgrade, you make other people think that everyone is doing it. You sure wouldn't say it was only a small number at release.

And this makes sense. It's a free OS (for the first year of its life) and a lot of people want to get off of Windows 8/8.1. Congrats to Microsoft, because Windows 10 really is pretty darn amazing.

Man you've got some real issues then. I started by updating my amd drivers first. Then I downloaded Win 10 myself from the website Microsoft provided. I had it downloaded and installed in about 30 minutes. Zero issues. All my games were still there, including my blizzard games, and they all run without a hitch. Aside from the visual differences of win 10, I wouldn't know that I upgraded, as everything works as intended. And I thought I would have some issues with my triple crossover setup, but nope, all good.

Might I ask, which method did you use to upgrade?

Edit: it even carried over all my desktop shortcuts, my theme, my desktop background, screensaver, and my start bat settings from start is back. Lol So good. :D
