Is an unlocked processor worth the extra 90 euro's?


As the title says.

Right now i don't need an unlucked processor like the i5-4670K, because an i5-4460 would run everything just fine (including games, right?)

 

But in 3 years i want a CPU that's still capable of everything. Is it worth the 90 euro's in your opinion?

no, its not worth it. especfially with DX12 removing alot of the weight from the backs of the cpu, not necessary to overclock

You have the ability to overclock it, if you do wan't to overclock it, you'll be needing an aftermarket cpu cooler, and it will probably be more futureproof than the other 4460, still, I'd better get the 4690k than the 4670k

How the hell is it that much more?!?! Where are you looking at buying them from? The difference should be like 20-30 bucks.

 

The K chip is a better chip, so potentially it will last longer as well. But, for 90 euro's its NOT WORTH IT at all. For 20-30 its worth it.

not for 90 50 or 60 maybe but not 90 your best bet would be to wait for a deal on processors or pick up a used one

Processors are pretty bullet proof so getting a used one is a fairly safe bet. Anything under 200 EU for that processor is good but I would look for a 4690k also and a 4770-4790k sometimes you can pick up a good i7 for the same as a i5. I purchased an i7 4770k off ebay for $245.00/ 224EU with shipping and it worked great.

Get the 4460 if you are on a budget, it is a GREAT CPU! It will last you a good few years, im sure of that :) A overclockable CPU is nice to have if you can afford it so you can squeeze the most performance from it but you would need a good CPU cooler and a more expensive motherboard which in total would make you spend much more really.

it wont give you 90 euros worth of performance by going K. so if thats the diffrence no, dont do it. CPUS last long and act just fine. my dad still uses his I7-920 everyday. its 7 years old and still rocks.

LOL, I had a 920, but it started to crap out about a year ago. I got it 3 months after release, and had it OCed to 3.82 for the entire life of it. Great chip!

the 4690K has much better TIM which is the thermal interface material between the die and the heatspreader of the CPU itself therefore it run's much cooler than the 4670K and they also added 2 extra capacitors on the die to better manage voltages and improve overclocking...if you're to spend extra money on an unlocked chip, make sure you get the 4690K, it will run cooler and overclock better and further than the 4670K that's a given.

Why is this? Because the 4690K is a Haswell Refresh CPU while the 4670K is a Haswell CPU... They refreshed the Haswell lineup to address the above heat issues and add more features. It will be worth it.

I do think you could consider a i7-4790K or non-K that would be best CPU for your socket and you never need to think about it until you swap motherboard...
