Windows 10 has been, or will be downloaded today for those who reserved - Don't delete C:\$windows.~BT

GoodBytes

Anyone one know off the cuff if Win10 P2P updates could cause QOS issues, or if its "smart enough" to know when not to upload?

I haven't seen confirmation but it would make sense if it only did P2P uploading while the computer was idle. Windows already does other things only when computer is idle so it would make sense. I'll try to find confirmation.

Under Settings > Updates > Advanced > Choose how updates are delivered

You can turn it off completely. Or alternatively, select the option to only send updates to PCs on your local network (which is a cool feature btw).

But to answer your question, I've seen very little upload bandwidth being used while updating and idling etc, So I think it's usage would be minimal.

@RH00D I'm currently experiencing connectivity issues, I suspect it's a coincidence but ya never know.

@aesrock I agree it's a neat feature, and I'm actually a fan of using p2p to more rapidly patch issues around the world ASAP.  Though I'm willing to bet this is more a move by MS management to save BW costs more than anything else.  Currently disabled on my end systems while I nail down the crap-lousy hangs & drops.  Will probably have to ro sham bo my ISP.

Thanks to you, I don't need to worry about my home hosted site bandwidth being saturated with p2p traffic biggrin.png I have the only Windows 10 computer in the house anyway because everyone else has fallen in love with Win7

If you want to delete it, use Disk Cleanup, so it takes all the other stuff you can't see too. Or use CCleaner if you already have that installed.

It's been 3 days and my c:\$windows.~BT is still stuck at 140mb. While I'm working a clean install of a Win8.1 laptop. Win10 shows up right away for download in optional updates and rest of the critical updates for win 8.1 aren't even installed yet! Dafuq?!

You need to delete the windows software distribution store then run a command line command to re-start the download.

I have been running W10 with Technical Preview for a while (months).

In System Properties, it says "Windows 10 Pro" as my OS, such as here:

post-2414-0-81794400-1438322230.png

It used to say Windows Technical Preview, such as here:

In my C:\$Windows.~BT, the update folder is still there at 3.96GB (I assume smaller than normal since I've probably got some of the updates already).

I'm a bit confused. Did it update or naw?

The windows 10 upgrade files and the old windows files will stay after the upgrade, to remove them use Disk Cleanup built-in to windows or CCleaner

I didn't even begin to think those were the old files. I figured that'd show up in it's usual "windows.old" folder. Thanks. That was it (Disk Cleanup knew what it was).

Exactly the same for me. I deleted it and it never came back.

Found out why it was stuck.

The reason why it's stuck at 140mb, is the os is downloading in the background. It's downloading to the software distribution download folder under Windows folder directory. Next to a few with the most recent days. Some folder will have a bits files that's a few gb in size.
